Planning Board Approves Hospital’s Application For Emergency Dept. Expansion

At a special meeting held Thursday evening, June 28, the Livingston Planning Board approved an application by Saint Barnabas Medical Center (SBMC) for minor site plan approval and variances. The application amended prior approvals to modify and expand the existing Emergency Department; and proposed reconfiguration of the existing parking area in front of the entrance to the Radiation and Oncology Department. The application also sought variances for signage. The applicant plans to add approximately 3,290 square feet to the Emergency Department. The construction will expand certain waiting areas and create a new vestibule, public toilet, patient holding area, and additional rooms. Also proposed are certain exterior building improvements, including façade improvements and the addition of a roof-top screen to hide new mechanical equipment.
