Bill “Doc” Pollak is a Livingston resident for more than 50 years, a retired dentist, and, at 83 years young, a dedicated baseball player. He regularly bounds into the Tribune office with the latest Livingston Dodgers news; they won their 12th consecutive game on August 5. But it was time, the staff felt, for a story just about him and his love of baseball and the people who play the game. Ball Playing in the ‘Hood “In grammar school,” Pollak said, “we moved to a neighborhood in Newark where all we did, all day long, was play stoop ball, stick ball, box ball, basketball. It was all we talked about. I guess it’s my second nature.” He said there were lights hanging out of windows, between the houses, and the kids played at night.
