After hearing Scott Goldman, Laurie Kahn and Michael Vieira each speak, members of the Livingston Democratic County Committee held a blind vote and named Vieira the township’s next Council member.
The Livingston Democratic Committee originally selected the three nominees mid-January, presenting the names to the Township Council, who were then to select the new member. The four Council members did not reach a unanimous decision and instead chose to send the vote back to the Committee for a final vote, which was held on Wednesday, February 13.
Of the 51 Committee members, 39 were present for the vote, with one abstaining from the selection. Vieira received the most votes by a significant margin. Prior to the vote, according to those in the room, all three candidates pledged to stay active within the party moving forward, regardless of the result.
