Richard William Sauer

Richard William Sauer, 98, of Livingston, NJ, passed away on Tuesday March 5, 2019 in Essex, CT. Richard was born in East Orange, NJ to Henry and Bertha Sauer on December 26, 1920. He received his master’s degree in economics from Rutgers University and was married to his beloved wife, Lillian Sauer, for almost 60 years. They resided in Livingston, NJ for the majority of their lives. He worked as a general manager in charge of services for over 50 years for Public Service Gas and Electric Company in Newark, NJ. He was a World War II veteran who served in France and Germany as part of the 398th Infantry, 100th Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the American Theater Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, theEuropean-African-Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, and the Meritorious Unit Award. Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Sauer. Richard is survived by his children, Linda Hunnewell and her husband, Carroll; Curtis Sauer and his wife, Linda; his grandchildren, Gregory Sauer and his wife, Julia; Christine Chatfield and her husband, Trevor; C.J. Hunnewell and his wife, Jennifer; Michael Hunnewell and his wife, Lauren; Jessica King and her husband, Josh; and his great-grandchildren, Hannah and Lucas Hunnewell. Visitation took place on Saturday, March 9, at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, located at 145 East Mt. Pleasant Avenue, Livingston, NJ. Following visitation, funeral services were held on Saturday, March 9, at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home. Burial followed at Restland Memorial Park Association, located at 77 DeForest Avenue, East Hanover, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family of Richard wishes to extend their sincere thanks to all friends and caregivers who helped Richard over the last few years. Arrangements are by the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home. ...
