The Lancer wrestlers put together a team effort to finish in third place in the Essex County Athletic Directors’ Association Tournament at Codey Arena last weekend. Twelve out of the 13 grapplers advanced through the first round and got into the running for a top eight finish in their respective weight classes.
Aidan Carmody, a 106 pound freshman, stormed into the semi-finals with a 43 second pin and an 8-0 major decision in his first two matches. Using his patented leg ride, body scissor and power half, Carmody scored bonus points for the Lancers as he advanced. In the semi-finals, he dropped a bout to the defending county champion and then lost a heartbreaking back-andforth match to Orange’s Merlin Sanat to finish fourth.
