Local officials are continuing to prepare residents as the novel coronavirus COVID-19 continues to spread globally.
While the full domestic impact of the virus remains unknown, as of Wednesday morning, at least nine people have died in the United States, all in Washington, and New York has six confirmed patients. More than 100 cases have been confirmed in the U.S., though actual figures are expected to be much larger. By Wednesday, global cases had exceeded 93,000, with the death toll totaling more than 3,200.
“We are working with the state and county health departments, and our health department is closely monitoring the situation,” mayor Rudy Fernandez said.
