Maxine “Mitzi” Feier

Mitzi Feier, 94, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2020. Services will be delayed until safety can be assured. A lifelong resident of Essex County, Mitzi rose from a medical technologist at Irvington General Hospital to managing the laboratories at the Veterans’ Administration Hospital in East Orange and teaching Medical Technologist students. Mitzi was a sweet matriarch with a wicked sense of humor and an inner toughness to keep her extended family in line. A Renaissance woman, she was interested in literature, birding, science, and her family. She was a member of the American Association of University Women’s Scholarship Committee and the Livingston Library Book Club, and received the 1976 New Jersey Society of Medical Technologists’ “Med Tech of the Year” award. A 1942 graduate of Weequahic High School, she earned her B.S. in medical technology at New York University in 1947. The matriarch of four generations, Mitzi was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Joe, and her son, Richard. She is survived by her favorite son, Neal, and his spouse, Sue Heiss; her favorite granddaughter and best friend, Heather Amendolara and her husband, Peter; and her daughter­in­law, Dennise Feier. Also surviving are her grandsons, Mark Feier and Michael Feier, and her great­grandchildren, Ruby and Dexter Amendolara and Hannah Perkins. ...
