William Joseph “Bill” Myrtle, 75, of Sparta, New Jersey, passed away peacefully in his home in the early hours of February 8, 2021. He was the husband of Tamar “Tatu” Myrtle, with whom he spent 15 happy years of marriage. Bill was born on December 30, 1945, in Newark, New Jersey, to William Joseph Myrtle, Sr. and Grace Ursula Myrtle. He was the third of six children and spent his childhood in Irvington, New Jersey. He graduated from Irvington Vocational Technical School, where he returned to give alumni speeches. Shortly after graduating, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam before returning home, where he opened his own companies, Ampex and E.S.I., and worked as a licensed electrician and contractor. Following that, he was a developer and managing partner of the Mount Arlington Corporate Center for over 30 years. Bill led many other projects, including the Mount Arlington Police Station, which was donated to the borough. He was the recipient ofmany awards for both commercial and residential construction. In addition to his many accomplishments as a leader in business, Bill was a patron to several causes. Closest to his heart was that of the Freedom House, a non-profit organization dedicated to the treatment of substance use disorders in Sussex County. He also worked closely with the former mayor of Mount Arlington, Arthur Ondish. Outside of work, Bill enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, and home and commercial renovation. He was also a passionate New York Giants fan. Bill is predeceasedby his parents; his brother, Edward Myrtle; and his two sons, William Myrtle and Brian Myrtle. In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by his four sisters, Carol Anne Faler, Barbara Grace Bambrick, Mary Elizabeth Saunders, and Eileen Beatrice Cross; his son, Roland Kekelia; and loving nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. William’s Celebration of Life will include visitation on Friday, February 12, 2021 from 3 to 6:30 p.m. at Leber-Lakeside Funeral Home, 150 Landing Road, Landing, New Jersey. It will be followed by a Catholic prayer service that will begin at 6:30 p.m. Cremation will be private.
