Eugene J. Howland, 91, of Livingston, passed away at home on March 13, 2021. Visitation took place yesterday, Wednesday, in the Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Avenue, Roseland, NJ 07068, shookfarmer.com. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered today, Thursday, at 10 a.m. at St. Philomena’s Church in Livingston, with entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Eugene grew up in Verona and settled in Livingston in 1961. He graduated from St. Benedict’s Prep School in Newark. During the Korean War, he honorably served in the Air Force, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his time in the Air Force, he was a member of the American Legion and VFW Livingston Posts. Eugene began his career at Tung Sol Electric, working on several projects including the automobile electronic ignition system. He worked in the automotive industry for Ford Motor Company and later worked for Components Corporation in Denville, New Jersey, until he retired. He was a long-time parishioner of St. Philomena’s Church and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Livingston Post. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and a lifetime Ham Radio Operator, WA2BBW SK. Eugene was pre-deceased by his parents, Charles A. and Frances Howland; his beloved wife of 62 years, Dorothy A. Howland (Prew); his son, Eugene Howland, Jr.; and his brother, Charles A. Howland, Jr. Surviving are his devoted daughters, Betty Howland and Margie Feola and her husband, Tom; and his cherished grandchildren, Jack and Caroline.
