Lucille S. Herr

Lucille S. Herr was born on August 15, 1929 and died on July 30, 2021. She is survived by Bernard, her beloved husband; her daughters, Jan and Beth; her granddaughter, Aviva; and her sons-in-law, Elihu and Gary. Lu was born and raised in Newark, New Jersey and was a long-term resident of nearby Livingston. She received her bachelor’s degree from Newark Teaching College and her master’s from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Lu taught first grade at Burnet Hill School in Livingston, New Jersey, where she was loved by her students and fellow faculty. After retirement, she and Bernie moved to Florence, Oregon, where they lived their dream for 38+ years. Lu was much more than a wife and mother; she was a founding member of Temple Emanu-El in Livingston, the Florence Events Center, and the Florence Chavurah. She and Bernie were proud members of Temple Beth Israel in Eugene, Oregon, and she was a staunch supporter of Habitat for Humanity and other organizations aiding the less fortunate. Lu and Bernie were in love Lu and Bernie were in love from the day they met, and she supported his varied scholastic and artistic endeavors throughout their 71 year marriage. Lu was and is still cherished by all who knew her. She was a power-house who got things done whether at home or in the community. Her warmth and goodness touched the lives of many.
