Livingston Philanthropies, Inc. (LPI) has announced that the second annual World Homeless Day will be recognized in Lincoln Park in downtown Newark on Friday, October 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.In recognition of World Homeless Day, explained LPI founder and director Jeff Friedman, “Newark Emergency Services for Families (NESF) has coordinated a coalition of community-based organizations and non-profit agencies along with corporate and government organizations to provide services and resources to our residents without addresses and those in need. This event is once again being co-sponsored by Newark Central Ward Council member LaMonica McIver.”Food, clothing, housing services, employment opportunities, mental health services, substance abuse treatment,  and legal and medical services are among the resources being provided to the homeless free of charge. COVID-19 testing and vaccinations will also be available.“Although the timeline for purchase and delivery of profoundly needed family subsistence products is short for this major upcoming event, Livingston Philanthropies, Inc. (LPI) plans to participate substantially,” said Friedman. “For the first time ever, LPI will work a live event with tables and perhaps a display. This represents a major growth step for LPI and its philanthropic efforts.”He continued, “As the event is Friday, October 8 – just a week from tomorrow – we are requesting immediate assistance to help those not in a position to help themselves. Ever-generous Livingston residents can partner with World Homeless Day, LPI and NESF two ways: 1. Order online or purchase in stores some of the products listed below, per Amina Bey, executive director at NESF and longtime LPI distribution partner; or, 2. Make a generous contribution at paypal.me/lpinj or by mail to LPI, 8 Country Club Road, Livingston, NJ 07039 to empower LPI volunteers to do the shopping for you.”Bey offered these examples of what may be distributed on World Homeless Day: sweet treats (individually wrapped cookies, pastries, muffins, etc.); give-away snacks (chips, juice, fruit cups, granola bars, small paper bags, cutlery packets); new underwear (men’s and women’s); small/trial size personal hygiene products (tooth brush, toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorant, shampoo, lotion, etc.); combs and hairbrushes; women’s sanitary pads; hair clips/ponytail holders; nail clippers/emery boards; cleansing wipes; and diapers in all sizes, 1 to 6.For more information, contact Jeff Friedman at LPI’s website, njhomeless.org, or 973-533-9336. “We plan to make a meaningful impact on October 8,” he added. “There is still time to partner with LPI to support World Homeless Day.”Photo: Livingston Philanthropies, Inc.
