Tennis Team Advances to Sectional Finals

The Livingston High School varsity tennis team defeated Morristown and Bergen Tech in the North I, Group IV Sectional Tournament to advance to the sectional final against Ridgewood. The team also lost a Super Essex Conference match to Montclair Kimberley Academy (MKA).Livingston 5, Morristown 0: The North 1, Group 4 Sectional quarterfinal saw Rebecca Liu, Chloe Lee, and Allison Miller win straight set singles matches and Rachel Friedman and Zoe Weisman win second doubles in straight sets. The Lancers’ first doubles team of Lindsay Bisk and Jessica Su split sets before winning, 6-1, 4-6, 10-4 in a ten-point match tiebreaker.The five senior varsity players were honored after the match for Senior Day. They are Rachel Friedman, Annica Dong, Edel Schnyder, Lindsay Bisk, and Allison Miller.MKA 5, Livingston 0: Montclair Kimberley overpowered the Lancers, winning the team match with straight set victories. Liu, Miller, and Kavya Narayanan lost the singles matches, while Bisk, Weisman, Su, and Zoe Gorsky lost the doubles matches.Livingston 4, Bergen Tech 1: The North I, Group 4 Sectional semi-final match saw Rebecca Liu trailing, 4-1, in the first set before rallying for a 6-4, 6-4 first singles victory. Chloe Lee won second singles, 6-0, 6-4, and Allison Miller won third singles, 6-3, 6-4.The first doubles team of Lindsay Bisk and Zoe Weisman lost, 5-7, 2-6, while Rachel Friedman and Jessica Su won at second doubles, 6-4, 6-2. Bergen Tech was the second-seeded team in the section, while Livingston was the third seed for the upset victory. Livingston will face top seed Ridgewood in the Sectional final.Livingston has a 10-7 win-loss record.In junior varsity action, the Lancers defeated Montclair Kimberley Academy (MKA), 3-2, on Wednesday, October 5, on the Memorial Park Courts.
