Join a Committee

The Township Council will make appointments to Livingston’s many advisory committees at the annual organizational meeting on New Year’s Day, and now is the time to apply. The Council hopes to attract new residents – and those who have not previously been active in the community – to serve on any of its many committees.Livingston’s volunteerism is a large part of what makes this community so special. This is your town; we strongly encourage all residents to take pride in it and become actively involved. There are so many ways to be an involved participant; and township committees are just one example of how to make a difference here in town. The deadline to apply is tentatively set for Friday, November 19. Potential applicants should submit a letter of interest, identifying your committees of choice, and highlighting any relevant interests, background or experience, to the Bipartisan Advisory Committee on Committee Appointments, c/o Glenn R. Turtletaub, Township Clerk, at 357 South Livingston Avenue, Livingston, New Jersey 07039, or via email to townclerk@livingstonnj.org. Applications must be submitted no later than November 19.A bipartisan committee will review the applications and make recommendations to the Council. That committee will begin meeting in mid-November to review submissions. Specific information about each committee and a listing of dates and times of committee meetings is available at www.livingstonnj.org, and by calling 973-535-7940.So, please, take a look at the list of committees. The selection is quite long and varied; find something that interests you and throw your hat in the ring. The time commitment is minimal and the rewards, for yourself and your community, can be immeasurable.Committees include ones for those who have interests in township affairs and development, as well as those with an interest in working with youth. There are committees that cover environmental and recreational concerns, technology, transportation, and open space. You can volunteer on committees that focus on the library, special events and celebrations, social justice, and utilization of various tracts of land. And these are just a few of the categories – there are dozens! There are plenty of ways to volunteer in Livingston, and we suggest everyone find a cause or group they find meaningful and dedicate some time, even if it’s just a small amount, to do some good in town. There’s no better time than now to start spreading goodwill.
