Trio Caught After Fleeing Traffic Stop Is Charged with Theft, Resisting Arrest

Three New York residents, two of them teenagers, are facing several charges after fleeing the scene of a crash, Livingston Police said.At 3:18 a.m. on Tuesday, October 19, three men from New York fled from a Mercedes-Benz after the car crashed into a guardrail at the end of Beaufort Avenue.Officer Ryan Collis had attempted to stop the car near the intersection of Beaufort Avenue and Dorsa Avenue, but the driver accelerated and eluded the officer. The driver was apparently not familiar with the area and drove into the dead end of Beaufort Avenue, where he slid into the guard rail. All three occupants then exited the car and jumped over the guard rail into the wooded embankment between Beaufort Avenue and Eisenhower Parkway.Livingston and Roseland Police officers responded into the area and searched for the men. The group was arrested and identified as Brandon Kalicharan, 19, of Queens, New York; Marc Rodriguez, 20, of Queens, New York; and a 16-year-old from Springfield Gardens, New York.A stolen credit card, several thousand dollars in cash, and packaged marijuana was recovered along with ski masks and numerous cell phones. The license plate on the car had been changed to a fictitious plate. The car was traced back to a Belleville resident that had rented the car out last month using the Turo app.Kalicharan was charged with eluding police, theft, and unlawful taking a means of conveyance, along with numerous traffic offenses. Rodriguez was charged with resisting arrest, unlawful taking a means of conveyance, and credit card theft. Both adults were released with complaint summonses.
