COVID Cases On The Rise; Boosters Available To All 18+

As of Tuesday morning, November 23, the Livingston Health Department has reported that a total of 2,601 Livingston residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since the first case was recorded in mid-March of 2020. 89 of those residents have died as a result of the virus. Compared to the same time last week, there are 37 new cases, with no additional deaths. In the past month, there have been 86 cases.Mayor Shawn Klein noted that the number of COVID cases is starting to rise, and cautioned residents to be careful while gathering with family and friends over the Thanksgiving holiday.The state currently lists four active cases within the township’s long term care (LTC) facilities. Those cases are three residents and one staff member at Spring Hills Livingston (formerly Atrium Post Acute Care of Livingston).County and StateCases are continuing an upward trend on county, state, and nationwide levels as the weather starts to cool and holiday travel commences.In Essex County overall, there were 97,790 total confirmed positive cases as of Tuesday. At least 2,863 county residents have died from complications related to COVID-19 as of that time. An additional 10,714 cases and 310 deaths are listed as probable.Statewide on Tuesday, the last available update prior to deadline, there were a reported 1,071,383 total confirmed cases and 25,442 total confirmed deaths as a result of COVID-19. There are an additional 2,823 probable COVID-19 deaths. Additionally, there are a total of 162,128 positive antigen cases, which are marked as probable cases by the state.The positivity rate for tests as of Tuesday was 4.77 percent, while the rate of transmission was 1.23.As of Tuesday, 811 patients with COVID-19 were hospitalized in New Jersey. 277 of those individuals were located in the northern region of the state.Vaccines and BreakthroughsMore than 6.154 million individuals who live, work, or study in New Jersey are fully vaccinated as of Monday. More than 1.112 million have received boosters or additional doses.Of the 5,828,060 fully vaccinated individuals as of November 8, 50,762 of them have since tested positive for COVID (0.87 percent). 1,062 have required hospitalization (0.02 percent) and 300 have died (0.005 percent) due to COVID.During the most recently recorded week, November 1 through 7, fully vaccinated individuals accounted for 1,707 positive tests out of 9,429; two COVID-related hospitalizations out of 525; and zero COVID-related deaths out of 115.Boosters are now available to all New Jersey residents over 18 ...
