Livingston volunteer firefighters quickly extinguished a smoky fire at Turano’s Pizza Kitchen, 69 East Northfield Road, on Thursday, November 18.Firefighters arrived to find a smoke condition in the restaurant and fire on top of the pizza oven. Firefighters extinguished the flames using a portable extinguisher. A booster line was then used to wet down items that were still smoldering. In addition, they opened the area above the ovens to check if the fire had spread. Fire extension was minor and the area was wet down.The fire damaged the wiring on the pizzeria’s alarm system. No injuries were reported.Turano’s announced that the pizzeria will be closed for renovation until further notice.In other calls, a natural gas leak was reported that same day at 2 Bushkill Drive, and a natural gas odor reported on Sunday, November 21, at a West McClellan Avenue residence.Gas LeakFire officials went to 2 Bushkill Drive on a report of a natural gas leak in the home’s basement. They found a leak in a pipe near a gas meter that Pbulic Service Electric and Gas (PSE&G) personnel had replaced a few days earlier. PSE&G was notified to make a repair.Gas OdorFirefighters went to 58 West McClellan Avenue on Sunday, November 21, on a report of a gas odor inside the residence. They checked the home with the department’s gas meter, but registered no reading. PSE&G was notified as a precaution.The Fire Department’s five other calls this past week were false alarms.A faulty detector in need of replacement was blamed for a false fire alarm at 10 Princeton Road on Thursday, November 18.There were four false alarms on Sunday, November 21. Detector malfunctions were the cause of false alarm activations at 4000 Pointe Gate Drive and at 6 Kathay Drive. A fire alarm transmission at 6 Thames Drive was canceled prior to firefighters’ arrival. Smoke from cooking set off a false fire alarm at 48 Aspen Drive.
