Livingston Philanthropies, Inc. (LPI) has announced that it is resuming its collection of toiletries. “Continuing to honor Livingston’s late and beloved Trish Duffy, who was the original inspiration for LPI’s collection of new toiletries and cosmetics, we are announcing that the Trish Duffy Toiletries and Cosmetics Challenge is back for 2022,” says LPI founder and director Jeff Friedman. “LPI is reaching out for personal hygiene products in all sizes to provide for the homeless and the growing number of families living below the poverty line.”Livingston residents are invited to drop both trial-size and regular family-size toiletries and new cosmetics at LPI “World Headquarters,” located in Friedman’s garage.“Many donors gather items they saved at home from trips and vacations. Others purchase all sizes online or in stores for donation to help others,” he adds. “Altruistic Livingston residents can send an email to me at njhomeless@aol.com or call me at 973-533-9336 to get the LPI World Headquarters address for drop-off. Please visit our website at njhomeless.org, designed by Livingston resident Allison Eglow.”Friedman continues, “You can’t practice good personal hygiene without personal hygiene products, including shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, lotion, soap, women’s products (pads only) and more. New cosmetics and make-up samples are appreciated, too. Poverty does not translate into not wanting to look good. These costly, out-of-the-question items are always a wonderful surprise when received by women and girls.”In closing, Friedman notes, “I’d like to share a quote from Rabindranath Tagore, who was an Indian polymath – poet, writer, playwright, composer, philosopher, social reformer and painter. He said, ‘I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy.’ Tagore was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1913 ‘because of his profoundly sensitive, fresh and beautiful verse.’ ”Photo:     Livingston Philanthropies, Inc.
