LHS Boys’ Track and Field Competes At Ocean Breeze Freedom Games

The Livingston High School boys’ track and field team recently participated in the Ocean Breeze Freedom Games. A select group of athletes competed against athletes from all over the northeast and as far away as Maryland and Virginia.The hurdlers were first up on the track. Running in the most competitive Red Division were Lancers Ray Oji, Matthew Ho and Lanz Canent. “Each would be facing the toughest opponents of the year in a highpressure race where small mistakes can cost the race,” said coach Nancy Petryna. Oji finished with a time of 8.83, Ho at 8.87, and Canent with a season’s best time of 10.20. Kondwani Lwamba competed in the White Division, where he finished eighth with a time of 10.48.The sprinters were next up for the 55-meter dash. Luke Petryna led the Lancers with a time of 7.04, sprinting in the Red Division. In the White Division, Ethan Wang had his fastest dash yet this season with a time of 7.09. Others running their season’s bests times were Brandon Dong (7.19), Ming Ma (7.66), and Varun Sohal (7.76). Angris Krishnamurthy finished at 7.46 and Lwamba came across the line at 7.62.The distance runners set to work next in the 1,600 meter race. They were also competing against a very competitive field of athletes. Lancer co-captain Kyle Viteri ran his best race of the season, finishing with a time of 5:05.52. Shane Lyons finished at 5:23.10, and Franklin Dashman at 5:28.73.While the runners were busy on the track, the throwers were awaiting their turn in the shot put circle. “The trio of John Ferrante, Michel Oji and Jadiel Enchautegui continue to improve each meet with the coaching of Eugene Asimou,” noted coach Petryna. Enchautegui threw first in the White Division and threw 38’1.5,” finishing in 17th place. Ferrante and Oji were next in the Red Division. Michel Oji threw a 40’10.25”. Ferrante had his best day of the season, powering a 45’5” for a fourth place finish in the field.The last race of the day was the 300 meter dash, a distance that was new to the sprinters this year. Petryna was up first, running in the Red Division. He sprinted out with a 38.54 time, placing second in his heat and running the second fastest time in the Lancer record book.Next up came a battle among Wang, Dong, Ho, Ma, and Krishnamurthy, who were all placed in the same ...
