Lancer Ice Hockey Team Improves to 15 Wins

The Livingston High School hockey team continued its unbeaten streak among public schools this week by going 2-0-1. The Lancers tied Glen Rock 3-3 on Friday, January 21. Goals by Zach Silva, Danny Grossbard, and Austin Vecchio helped the Lancers earn a late-game tie. Assists by Dillion Schultz, Ryan Zales, Brett Conklin, Zach Silva, Danny Grossbard, and Jace Dockx were key to the Lancer comeback. Solid defense by Andrew Qian, Dockx, Brett Conklin, and Ryan Zales, along with solid goaltending from Justinas Sanders, helped the Lancers kill off six power-play opportunities for Glen Rock.The same two teams battled it out again on Saturday, January 22, at the Ice House Arena in Hackensack. The Lancers opened the third period with a goal from Danny Grossbard, assisted by Austin Vecchio and Brett Conklin. Vecchio sealed the victory with a last-minute empty net goal for a 2-0 Livingston win. Senior goalie Zach Turbin earned the shutout, turning away all 20 shots to earn the victory. Once again, strong defense by Qian, Dockx, Zales, and Conklin limited the Glen Rock offense.On Monday, January 24, the Lancers traveled to Warinanco Park to take on another division rival, the Governor Livingston Highlanders. Livingston kept their unbeaten streak in the division alive by coming away with a 5-2 victory. Freshman Anthony Cassese scored his first goal of the season to kickstart the Lancer offense. Goals by Egor Tarasyuk, Spencer Solomon, and two by Danny Grossbard helped put the game away. Two assists each by Austin Vecchio and Egor Tarasyuk, along with assists from Zach Silva and Zach Turbin completed the Lancer scoring. Turbin turned in another solid effort with 23 saves. Jace Dockx, Andrew Qian, Brett Conklin, and Ryan Zales once again turned in another physical and solid effort on defense.The Lancer record now stands at 15-1-2 and the team is ranked ninth in the New Jersey Top 20 hockey rankings for both public and private schools. The team’s next game is Friday, January 28, at South Mountain Arena in West Orange, against Summit. The game will start at 8:45 p.m.
