Malhotra Breaks School Record at Invitational

The Livingston High School boys’ indoor track and field team traveled to the New Balance Armory in New York City for the Metropolitan Invitational ahead of the final weeks of the championship portion of the season.“The meet allowed for Freshman, Novice and Varsity Divisions, and for many of the athletes, this would be their last meet of the season,” noted coach Nancy Petryna. In addition, the meet saw Krish Malhotra break the school record in the 200 meter dash.First up for the Lancers was the 1,600 meter. Freshmen Richard Romero and Jordan Fleishman set out running in their heat looking to gain experience. Fleishman went out fast leading the pack, but it was Romero who finished first for the Lancers and ninth overall with a season’s best 5:13.76. Fleishman crossed the line at 5:49.61, also his best time of the year.Kyle Viteri was the first Lancer to finish in the race’s Novice division, posting a time of 5:05.03 for sixth overall. Max Israel (5:22.92), Alek Kasperski (5:29.73) and Eliot Vishnevsky (5:53.24) also competed.The 55-meter sprint saw the largest field of the day, with over 200 boys competing in all three divisions in multiple heats. Freshman Will Sun continued his domination of freshman sprints, finishing first overall at 7.24. Tugra Ovul also impressed the division with a third place finish with 7.41. Raalu Madubuko (7.71) also raced.Sprinting in the Novice Division, co-captain Quinn Devlin placed third overall with his return to track competition at (7.16). Also in the Novice race were Hank Klein (7.62), Marc Lewin (7.74), Victor Serban (8.34) and Kaushik Mukkavilli (8.76).In the Varsity Division, co-captain Krish Malhotra posted the fastest time of the night for the LHS squad. He finished seventh overall in the finals with a personal best 6.84. Also running in the Varsity event were Luke Petryna (6.98), Ethan Wang (7.01), Brandon Dong (7.04), Michel Oji (7.18), and Bupe Lwamba (7.75).The boys’ 55 meter high hurdles event saw many of the Lancers placing in their divisions. Competing as freshmen, Kondwani Lwamba placed third overall at 9.98. Karim Barakat (10.88) was fifth, Nicholas Siao (10.95) was sixth, and Madubuko was eighth rounding out an almost all-LHS final race.Ray Oji and Matt Ho were on the track in the Varsity Division and both advanced to the finals as one of the eight fastest competitors.
