Man Facing Drug Charges After Leaving Crash Scene

A West Orange man is facing several charges after leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash last weekend.At 10:45 a.m. on Saturday, February 19, Livingston Police received a call about an accident on East Northfield Road near Sycamore Avenue. A Mercury Sable had struck a tree, leaving the car disabled in the roadway. The caller stated that two men had exited a crashed vehicle and were walking away from the scene.Responding officers were given a description of the vehicle’s occupants. Officers Sheena Maldonado and Levecy DeOliveira located and detained two men walking nearby who matched the description that was given.The men were identified as the vehicle occupants by witnesses. The driver was identified as Michael Ferrulo, 26, of West Orange. Ferrulo exhibited signs of being under the in fluence of drugs and stated to officers that he had consumed drugs prior to the crash. Ferrulo subsequently suffered a medical episode and was transported to Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center for treatment. Blood samples were collected after police obtained a warrant. Ferrulo was found to have crack cocaine, heroin, and methadone in his possession. He was issued a criminal summons for drug possession, along with several traffic summonses associated with the accident.
