Electronics Recycling, Paper Shredding Event this Saturday at Senior Center

The Township of Livingston will hold its first Electronics Recycling and Paper Shredding event of the year this Saturday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Livingston Senior/ Community Center, 204 Hillside Avenue.Under New Jersey state law and the Township’s recycling ordinance, it is mandatory to recycle electronic items. Electronic items cannot be placed at the curb for pickup – the garbage and recycling collection trucks will not take them. This event offers residents free drive-through service to dispose of unwanted electronics and have confidential papers shredded.Electronics RecyclingThe following items will be accepted for electronic and small appliance recycling: cell phones, computers and components, copiers, DVD players, electronic games, fax machines, keyboards, laptops, monitors and flat screens, pagers, PDAs, portable electronic music devices, printers, radios, scanners, stereos, telecom equipment, televisions, electric typewriters, USB and other cables, and VCRs. Residents are encouraged to erase the hard drives and memories of their phones and computers before recycling them.The items collected will be recycled by Green Chip. The company will provide personnel at the event to remove electronic items from each resident’s vehicle; residents are asked to remain inside their cars with windows closed for safety reasons.Electronic items will be accepted whether they are working or not. For safety reasons, TV screens or monitors with broken glass or other sharp edges will not be accepted.
