This week, the Tribune received a letter from Linda Bloomstein of Penwood Road, who wrote to applaud the Livingston Police and Public Works Departments.“During a recent thunderstorm, a large tree branch fell on numerous wires in front of my house,” Bloomstein wrote. “Not knowing exactly what to do, I called the police, who filed a report with Jersey Central. Jersey Central followed up and cut the branch, leaving it on my front lawn. Again, not knowing exactly what to do, I called the police a second time.“The Livingston Department of Public Works received the police report and, within two hours, two large trucks arrived. The men meticulously chopped, ground, and cleaned away all the sawdust.”She concluded, “This may seem like a small incident to write about, but it symbolizes what makes Livingston such a special place to live.”• • •Sandy Goodman of Berkeley Terrace applauded the Livingston Library staff for decades of great work.“Over the 50 years that I have vis-ited and benefitted from the library I have observed how the programs have continually become more diverse and enticing; how the number of patrons have multiplied; and how what is offered in this building reflects our great town,” she wrote.“Each time I visit this attractive, bustling, but quiet facility, I am more impressed with the gracious staff who truly attempts to help every patron. The website is designed so well: it reminds me of a well polished corporate business.”Goodman continued. “I laugh when I reminisce about just taking books out of the small town library on Mt. PleasantAvenue in the 1960s. Nothing more was offered. Today there is technology instruction, hoopla, canopy, Libby, reference, languages, films, newspapers, magazines, lectures, programs for every demographic, English as a second language, teen events, museum passes, study rooms, lectures, collections, business services, and many, many, more resources!”She concluded, “Often, the things in life we take for granted someone else is hoping for. We are the envy of many towns. Let’s continue to support this gem!”
