The Livingston High School girls’ varsity basketball team ended its 2023-24 season with an excellent performance in the State Tournament.After recording an historic upset over Paterson Eastside, the Lancers fell in a tough battle against Passaic County Technical School to end their State Tournament run.“I am extremely proud of the way our girls ended their season with their performance in the State Tournament,” said coach Ashley Addison. “After failing to qualify for the North 1 Group 4 State Tournament last season, we made it this year as the 16th seed. In an historic program win, we defeated the 20-win, number 1-seeded Paterson Eastside Ghosts with a final score of 40-37.”In that game, the girls rallied from a seven point deficit to outscore Paterson Eastside, 18-4, in the third quarter. “We had balanced scoring throughout, but the standout performer for the upset was Amanda Weinberger with a double-double of ten points and 14 rebounds,” recounted coach Addison. This win was the first in the State Tournament for the Lady Lancers since 2018.After defeating Paterson Eastside on Wednesday, February 21, the Lancers were slated to play another top team in the Group, Passaic County Technical School, on Monday, February 26. “Although we fell to PCTI by ten points, our girls battled back from an early deficit and had the game as close as four points in the fourth quarter – just one or two shots away from tying or taking the lead,” said the coach. The final score was 37-27.CoachAddison reflected, “This season was full of close wins and losses, and I believe it helped to battle test our girls and prepare them to face this tough competition in the tournament.
