Planning Board chairman Peter Klein attended Monday evening's Township Council conference meeting to discuss possible amendments to the township's sign ordinances. "A continuing issue," said Klein, "is temporary and portable signs, which fall into four categories."

Funeral Held For Livingston Teen Gunned Down in West Orange

More than 1,000 people crowded into St. Philomena's Church on Tuesday, July 1, to mourn the death of 19 year old Brendan Tevlin, who was gunned down in West Orange on Wednesday evening, June 25. Tevlin, a graduate of Seton Hall Preparatory School and a rising sophomore at the University of Richmond, had been at a friend's house in West Orange playing video games. He apparently texted his mother that he was on his way home; however, he never made it.

Duker Family: Three Generations Of Firefighters and Flag Carriers

When Joseph Duker Sr. joined the Livingston Fire Department in 1949, he could not imagine that, 23 years later, a son of his would join the Fire Department and serve the township for 41 years. Or that a grandson would also become a volunteer firefighter in 2013, making the Dukers the first three-generation family of Livingston firefighters as well as the first family to have all three carry the flag at Livingston's Memorial Day Parade.

78th Independence Day Celebration Will Be Held All Day on July 4

Livingston's 78th annual July 4 celebration will include activities throughout the day. Livingston township offices and library will be closed for the holiday on Friday, July 4, The annual fireworks display will be held on Friday evening. In case of rain, the fireworks will be presented the following day, Saturday, July 5. In case of inclement weather, a decision will be made by 2 p.m. whether to resechedule. A message will be left on 973-535-7925.

Prosecutor Releases Photographs of Possible Suspect

From the Prosecutor's office, regarding the Wednesday night murder of Livingston resident Brendon Tevlin:

Acting Prosecutor Carolyn  Murray is releasing the (attached) photographs of two males running in the area at the time  of Wednesday night's homicide at Walker Road and Northfield Avenue in West Orange. The males in the photograph MAY or MAY NOT  be witnesses to  the homicide so we are seeking to identify them.   Anyone that can identify these  males, please call the Essex County Prosecutor's Hotline at (877) 847-7432 x1877.  All calls will be kept confidential.

The photographs were obtained from a video surveillance camera .

Class of 2014 officially became graduates on Friday, June 20. The class of 463 students marched to their seats on the high school football field to the traditional tune of Pomp and Circumstance, listened to speeches by Board of education president Barry Funt, LHS principal Mark Stern, valedictorian Kevin Kwok and salutatorian Helen Chen before receiving their diplomas under sunny skies and moderate temperatures. Later that evening, the graduates boarded buses for drew University and Project Graduation, the all-night, drugfree and alcohol-free celebration.

East Cedar street was closed to traffic on Tuesday evening as crews worked on the milling and paving reconstruction project. According to Jeanette Harduby of the Livingston engineering department, Essex County is overseeing the work on the county road.

More than 100 students inducted into nhs

Livingston High School inducted more than 100 students into the National Honor Society during ceremonies on June 5. The students each demonstrated academic rigor, leadership, and honorable service in order to qualify for the honor. The object of the Julius C. Bernstein Chapter of the National Honor Society is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulate a desire to render service, promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in all students.
