Fernandez, Klein, and Meinhardt Elected to Council; August, Spring and Konner Returned to School Board

With only 25% of the eligible voters going to the polls, the race for Township Council was decided on Tuesday by a very narrow vote while the Board of Education election, held at the same time, was much more clear cut. Voters sent Charles "Buddy" August back to the Board of Education by a solid majority. Without the count of mail-in votes, August received 2,897 votes to Barry Funt's 1,463.

DAMAGE WAS LIMITED TO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT of an antique car that caught fire on Sunday afternoon, November 2, at the intersection of West Northfield Road and Hillside Avenue. Paul Smith of 21 Crescent Road called the Livingston Fire Department at about 3:40 p.m., reporting that he had heard a bang and then had seen flames coming from the engine compartment of his 1955 Buick Roadmaster.

Rotary Club Holds Annual Awards Dinner

The Rotary Club of Livingston Foundation recently honored Tim McLoone, the Livingston Fire Department, and the Livingston First Aid Squad at its annual Awards Dinner. Tim McLoone is a restaurateur who founded the non-profit volunteer musical group, “The Holiday Express,” which supports Special Children’s Hospitals and schools, and Soup Kitchens throughout New Jersey during the holiday season. McLoone was presented with the 2014 Citizenship Award by Barbara Maran, director of St. John’s Soup Kitchen in Newark.

Livingston Shuttle Adjusts Schedule

The Livingston Shuttle from the Livingston Mall to the South Orange train station has had to adjust its schedule due to announced closings of South Orange Avenue from Cherry Lane to Wyoming Avenue from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for construction of a footbridge across the roadway on Thursday and Friday, November 6 and 7 as well as on Tuesday, November 11. The shuttle will be detoured to Northfield Avenue, which will add an additional 15 minutes to the drive time.

Lancer Boys Defeat Seton Hall Prep School For First Essex County Soccer Title Since 1995

The Livingston Lancers boys' soccer team on Saturday night defeated Seton Hall Prep, 1-0, in the Essex County Tournament Championship game for its fi rst ECT Championship since 1995. Livingston, the fi fth seed, got to the finals by defeating East Orange, 1-0, in the fi rst round on a goal by Jack Wasserman. In the quarterfi nal round, Livingston faced West Orange, which was the fourth seed. The Mountaineers had defeated the Lancers, 1-0, earlier in the year with a goal with just under three minutes to go in that game.

Stanley Greenberg, 85, Dies in West Orange

Former Livingston resident Stanley Greenberg of West Orange died on Tuesday, October 28, at Brighton Gardens in West Orange. Born in the Bronx, New York, Mr. Greenberg lived in Union, Irvington, Maplewood, Livingston, and Boca Raton, Florida. He moved to West Orange two years ago. Mr. Greenberg served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was self-employed as a certified public accountant. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marilyn Greenberg; two daughters, Marcy Rittweger of Florida, and Judy Wolff and her husband, Bruce, of Livingston; one son, Stuart Geenberg and his wife, Ellen, of Westfield; and four grandchildren.

Graveside Services For Lois Naroden

Lois (Kartsen) Naroden, 79, died on November 4 at Emeritus at Hillsborough. Graveside services were held yesterday, Wednesday, at Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Iselin. Born in Kearny, Mrs. Naroden had lived in Livingston before moving to Hillsborough. She had been a secretary for Prudential Insurance in Newark for 15 years. Predeceased by her husband, Erwin, in 2001, Mrs. Naroden is survived by her three sons, Alan and his wife, Iris; Samuel and Jerome; and five grandchildren.

Private Services For Carrie Leo

Caroline "Carrie" Leo died at the age of 96 on November 1. Services and burial were private. Born in Orange, where she lived for most of her life before moving to Livingston in 2006, Miss Leo was a parishioner of St. John's Roman Catholic Church. Livingston was one of 14 Essex County municipalities and 36 non-profit community organizations that received a total of $4.8 million from the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and the Emergency Shelter Grant programs on Wednesday, October 22.
