Super Bowl Victory for the Jr. Lancers B Varsity

Family, friends, and the Junior Lancer cheerleaders braved the cold to support Livingston Junior Lancer B football team as the squad defended its Super Bowl title on Sunday night, November 16. The Junior Lancers B varsity, a football team comprising fifth and sixth grade boys and girls, took on the West Essex Cowboys in Nutley, winning the Super Bowl championship, 8-6.

A Life-Saving Skill

Recently a life was saved when a patron at a local restaurant successfully administered the Heimlich maneuver to another customer who was choking on her food. Luckily, the patron had previously seen the abdominal thrust procedure performed on a loved one, and was able to duplicate this valuable first aid technique.

Council Approves Sign Ordinance; Delays Hearings on Four Others

An ordinance to control the use of temporary and portable signs was enacted by the Township Council on Monday evening. The new ordinance sets the size of temporary signs for the sale or lease of a premises and defines the size and use of temporary wall-mounted banners and window signs.

Two members of the Township Council met informally with two members of the Board of Education recently to discuss items of mutual concern. The meeting did not have to be publicly announced under the "Sunshine Law," because less than a majority of each of the bodies attended the meeting.

LHS Among Top Districts In State for AP Offerings

At Livingston High School, 93.9 per cent of AP students received scores of 3 or more on the AP exams, said interim superintendent Jim O'Neill as he introduced the topic to the Board of Education meeting on November 10. This compares to 74.2 per cent in the state and 61 per cent in the nation. "The AP exams are long-standing, well recognized tests," he said, and the district should be very proud of its record.

Residents Present Contrasting Views Over Dividing of Edgemere Road

During its conference meetings, the Township Council usually meets in the conference room adjacent to the court chambers; however, on Monday evening, the meeting had to be moved into the courtroom to accommodate the large number of people attending. Almost all of them were there to present their views on the possible re-closing of Edgemere Road.
