The Livingston High School boys' varsity soccer team will be host to Newark East Side in the season opener on Friday, September 5.

A group of men who have pedaled for charity all the way across the country, from Los Angeles to Brooklyn, made a stop in Livingston along the way. The fund-raising Bike 4 Friendship trek, created by the Friendship Circle International, raised $150,000 for programs that assist special needs children, including the Friendship Circle MetroWest in Livingston. The Friendship Circle pairs teenage volunteers with children and teens who have special needs.

With technology changing at an ever increasing pace, it's not always easy for those who have not grown up with it to keep up with the times. In an effort to remedy this problem 15 year old Livingston resident Ben Boxer recently donated his time to teach Livingston senior citizens how to use their iPads, iPhones and other "smart" devices.

Livingston's public schools will open for the 2014-15 academic year next Thursday, September 4, witha total enrollment in the district of 5,862, according to the latest figures  released by school officials. The district has welcomed a total of 43 new teachers for the new school year.

Fire Department volunteers extinguished a fire in the driveway of 19 Wynnewood Road, the home of John and Geralyn Kovac, on Wednesday, August 20. According to fire officials, the home's hardwood floors had been re-finished, and the fire occurred outdoors when improperly discarded floor finishing materials and sawdust spontaneously combusted.

When acting governor Kim Guadagno signed Assembly Bill No. 2072 into law, requiring high schools to provide students with hands-on training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) last Wednesday, there was no worry on the part of Livingston staff and administration. While some districts scramble to comply with the new law, Livingston is ahead of the curve.

Speaking of saving lives, on August 25, the Livingston Public Library sponsored its semi-annual blood drive in conjunction with the Blood Center of New Jersey. The drive was held in an effort to meet the community’s increasing need for blood, as the Center is operating on a one-day supply. All types are needed. Did you know that each unit of blood donated is broken down into components including platelets, plasma and red cells? Did you know that a single donation can help save the lives of up to three people? Did you know that 16-year-olds, with parental/ guardian consent, can donate blood in the state of New Jersey?

A new ticket booth is being constructed at the entrance to the Al Jacobson field at Livingston High School. LHS students in the technology department's architecture CAD class designed and framed the structure.

JAG Physical Therapy won the Men's M3 softball playoffs beating Cohn Reznick 22-5.
