Working as a team with her 11 year old daughter, Brooke, Livingston resident Denise Dunton has started what her family calls “Service Saturdays.” The team handles a variety of projects, “usually making weekly sandwiches for those in need and picking up trash,” Dunton said. “I coupon for fun, and regularly donate the products I get through couponing to different causes.” This time, Livingston Philanthropies, Inc. (LPI) was the beneficiary, and the Duntons assembled and delivered more than 40 toiletries and cosmetics gift bags for the homeless to LPI founder and director, Jeff Friedman. Less than 30 minutes after donation, the gift bags were delivered by LPI volunteers to long-time LPI friend and distribution partner, Markisha Deville, director of the social services SAIF program at Newark Emergency Services for Families (NESF). The well-stocked, colorful gift bags were distributed just days later to individuals living in extreme poverty at an NESF give-away event.
