Back to “Normal”

The past few weeks have brought some welcome good news in town.

Annual events, including Fourth of July festivities and Summerfest (to be held in the fall), which had to be cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, are actively being planned. Schools are preparing to fully open for students who feel comfortable attending, with the goal of a typical school year come fall.

Think of the Unvaccinated

So, you have received both of your vaccination shots and waited the appropriate amount of time after the second dose to achieve a satisfactory level of immunity. Congratulations! You have done a service to yourself and your community. But your job is not over.

The vaccinated still need to be thinking about the unvaccinated. As of earlier this week, more than one out of every ten residents in the state had been fully vaccinated, with about a quarter of New Jersey’s residents receiving at least one dose. Those who are vaccinated may now be out and about and may be making life more dangerous for the many millions of New Jersey residents still waiting for their number to be called.

“It’s All About the Feet…” LPI Reaches Out to Footwear Industry

Article Image Alt Text

This week, Livingston Philanthropies, Inc. (LPI) founder and director Jeff Friedman has announced that the Livingston-based charity is in need of new footwear for the homeless.
Friedman said, “ ‘You have to take care of your feet when you’re out on the street,’ the homeless gentleman told me. ‘If your feet go, you’re done.’ That’s why Livingston Philanthropies, Inc. acquired and donated almost 10,000 pairs of Bombas socks to homeless and profoundly poor recipients in Newark.
“It’s also why LPI is reaching out for relationships with footwear wholesalers, manufacturers, jobbers, discontinued footwear sellers, department stores and other related entities to purchase men’s sneakers and family footwear to ‘provide for the homeless, profoundly poor and disenfranchised.’ ”

Township Council May Hold Public Forum To Discuss Potential Marijuana Ordinances

The Township Council, at its meeting on Monday, March 8, held a preliminary discussion on where each member stands after Governor Phil Murphy signed the marijuana legalization bills into law last week.

The bill was signed on February 22, and the township has 180 days from that date to pass any ordinances restricting marijuana-related business in town, making August 22 the “opt out date.”

“We need to consider where we are going to stand,” Mayor Shawn Klein said.
