Funeral Service Held For Jerome B. Alenick

Jerome B. Alenick, Esq., of Livingston, died on September 27. He was 87 years old. Funeral arrangements were by J. L. Apter Memorial Chapels, Dover. As a student at Lafayette College, Mr. Alenick was a member of ROTC. After earning a degree from Rutgers School of Law, he joined the U.S. Army as a sergeant and later began a career in real estate. Mr. Alenick is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nicole Kaplan Alenick; his son, Scott Alenick; his daughter, Debra Tambor; his daughter-in-law, Suzanne Alenick; four grandchildren; one great-grandson; and his sister, Barbra Mayer. Donations may be made to Suburban Torah Center in Livingston, or Bris Avrohom Center in Hillside.

Longtime Resident Doris Cole Dies at 92

Doris Wertz Cole, 92, died on Sunday, September 18. A resident of Livingston for 70 years, Mrs. Cole worked at Squiretown School, taught Sunday school and was a crossing guard at Burnet Hill School. After retiring, she moved to Fort Pierce, Florida. She is survived by her three children: John Cole of Jackson, Jaclyn Kramer of Almond, Wisconsin, and Cindi Cole of Sussex; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Hold Funeral Services For Lucille Hammer

Lucille Marie Hammer died at her Livingston home on Wednesday, September 14. Mrs. Hammer was born in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, to William and Lucy (Whitman) Rupp, and had lived in Livingston since 1957. Predeceased by her husband, LeRoy, she is survived by her children, Susan DeSapio and her husband, Guy; William and wife, Nancy; Martin and his wife, Miriam; and Thomas and his wife, Terri; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her sister, June Kreutz. Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home arranged for services, which were held on September 19. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Barnabas Health Home Care and Hospice, 80 Main St., West Orange, NJ 07052, or a charity of the donor's preference.

Melvin Lieberman, 92

Mr. Melvin Lieberman, 92, of Livingston died Sunday, September 18, 2016. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 20 at the Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel. Mr. Lieberman was a longtime employee of Schering-Plough in Bloomfield and then a post retirement employee of the Livingston Public Library. A longtime member of Temple Emanu-El of Livingston and an avid bridge player, Mr. Lieberman was an alumnus of both the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Connecticut. Predeceased by his brother, Seymour Lieberman, he is survived by his wife, Arlene; three children, Joan Prach, Steven Lieberman and Janet Lieberman; and two grandchildren, Jessica and Eric Prach. Hold Service Saturday For Peter Wilson Jr.

Peter Wilson Jr., a lifelong resident of Livingston, died on September 17. He was 95 years old. Mr. Wilson was a teacher and high school vice-principal, and served in World War II. He had been married for 67 years, and is survived by a niece and nephew. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, September 24, at 10 a.m. at McCracken Funeral Home, 1500 Morris Avenue in Union. It will be preceded by a viewing beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Eugene Samojlik Dies in Livingston

Dr. Eugene Samojlik, 83, died at home in Livingston on Tuesday, September 13. A service was held at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home. Dr. Samojlik was born in Kuchmy, Poland and received his Ph.D. in endocrinology in Warsaw, Poland. He was an endocrinologist with Beth Israel Medical Center, and with UMDNJ, in Newark, before retiring in 2010. He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Samojlik. Dr. Samojlik is survived by his children, Dorothy and her husband William Muise; and Michael and his wife Kelly Samojlik; and three grandchildren. Donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN 38105.

Funeral Services Held For Rita Gannon, 101

Rita Barry Williams Gannon, 101, died on Tuesday September 13. Born in East Orange, Mrs. Gannon lived in Livingston for 59 years before moving to Toms River. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Gannon Donnelly and husband, Kevin, and two grandsons. She was predeceased by her first husband, James Williams, who died during World War II, and George Gannon; a daughter, Geraldine Gannon; and granddaughter, Erin Donnelly. The family suggests that donations to the Valerie Fund, 2101 Millburn Avenue, Maplewood, NJ 07040, in memory of Erin P. Donnelly, are appreciated.
