Hold Private Service For Eleanor Elgart, 93

Eleanor Elgart, formerly of Livingston, died on June 4 in Boca Raton, Florida.

She attended Hunter College and graduated from Montclair State University. Mrs. Elgart worked for Foster Wheeler for many years and was an active member of Temple Emanu-El in Livingston.

She was predeceased by her husband, Jay, in 2015, and is survived by her two sons, Dave (Jeanne Burstein of Mendham and Charles of St.Paul, Minnesota; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A private service was held on June 19, with arrangements by Rubin Memorial Chapel, Boynton Beach, Florida.

Hans Joachim Conrads

Hans Joachim Conrads of Livingston was born April 4, 1933, and passed away on Monday, June 29.

Born in Newark, he had lived in Livingston for 46 years. He was a member of the Livingston Old Guard.

Mr. Conrads was predeceased by his parents, Heinrich (Henry) Conrads and Martha (Kaiser) Conrads; and his sister,Esther (Conrads) Darbyshire.

He is survived by his wife, Herta, to whom he was married for 61 years; his sons, Peter P. Conrads of Ohio and Mark David Conrads of Cedar Knolls; his grandchildren, Amanda, Mark Jr., and Samantha; and cousins and other family in Leipzig, Germany.

Mr. Conrads served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1956, and his favorite hymn was the Navy Hymn:

Eternal Father, strong to save

Whose arm hath bound for the restless wave

Who bidst the mighty ocean deep Its own appointed limits keep

Its own appointed limits keep

O hear us when we cry to Thee

William Carnivale

William Carnivale, 94, formerly of Livingston, N.J., passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2020 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Born October 12, 1925, in Union, N.J., William Carnivale spent much of his life in Livingston, N.J. After serving as a member of the my Air Corps during World War II, William went on to complete undergraduate and graduate degrees at New York University’s Schools of Commerce and Business.

William married his beloved wife, Marion, on November 21, 1948, and in 1954 they moved to Livingston to raise their family.

After holding various financial management positions in the pharmaceutical and consumer products industries (including Controller for Ciba, Wilkinson Sword, Yardley, and Mennen), William went on to own and operate the New Town Pub in West Orange – where he was known as “Mr. Bill” – until he retired in 1997.

Robert G. MacKenzie

Robert G. MacKenzie

Robert George MacKenzie, a long-standing resident of Livingston, New Jersey, died unexpectedly on June 9, 2020.

Robert is survived by his sons, Douglas and his wife, Margaret; and David.

Robert was born on October 3, 1930, in Newark, New Jersey. He initially worked as a tool-and-die maker, served in the Army in Korea, and graduated from Seton Hall University with a degree in finance. He then married and moved to Livingston.

Robert worked in the insurance industry, initially for Liberty Mutual, subsequently for American International Group. Robert, his wife, Barbara, and their dog, Dallas, remained in Livingston during their retirement.

Robert was an avid golfer and world-traveler, and was active with the Federated Church.

A funeral service is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, at the Federated Church of Livingston, at the corner of Route 10 and Livingston Avenue.

Funeral Liturgy Held For Kathryn Finn, 94

Kathryn Finn (nee Cornish), 94, died Wednesday, June 17, at her home [in Livingston].

Mrs. Finn was a member of the Cadet Nursing Corps and attended the school of Orange Memorial Hospital from 1943 to 1946. She later worked at the hospital, achieving the title of head nurse, before becoming a homemaker.

She was predeceased by her husband, Alan J. Finn. She is survived by her children, Karen Finn, Susan Kraft (John), Carol Sinnott (Rev. Paul), Alan Finn, Jr., Janet Germinario (Philip), and Michael Finn; and three grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren.

A private family viewing was held, and the funeral liturgy took place at St. Philomena’s Church, Livingston, on Tuesday, June 23. Interment followed at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. A memorial will be held at a later date after the pandemic.

Donations may be made in Mrs. Finn’s memory to the St. Philomena Sharing Office, 973-992-1382.

Diane Goldberg Dies

Diane Margo Goldberg died on June 14, in her Livingston home. She was 83 years old.

The daughter of Philip and Ella Mandelbaum, Mrs. Goldberg, was raised in Maplewood and attended Boston University.

She was predeceased by Robert, her husband of 60 years, and is survived by her children, Howard and his fiancée, Joanne; Michael and his wife, Terri; and Kenneth and his wife, Melissa; her brothers, David (Karen) Mandelbaum and Nathan (Sheree) Mandelbaum; and her five grandchildren.

The family suggests that thoughts of appreciation be directed to the Friendship Circle or the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest.

William (Bill) Morgan

The world is a little less bright without William (Bill) Morgan, of Livingston, who passed on June 21. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Anne, with whom he built an extraordinary life. Bill was born in East Orange on November 30, 1929, to William and Elsie (Allten) Morgan, and grew up in the Vailsburg section of Newark. He attended Newark Central High School before receiving a B.S. and M.S. in engineering from the Newark College of Engineering (the predecessor to New Jersey Institute of Engineering).

Anne and Bill moved to Livingston in 1960, where they built their life and raised their family. He is survived by his four children and their spouses, Bill and Terry Morgan, Greg and Lori Morgan, Joyce and Mark Benson, and Maureen Liddy and Will Textores; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Eva Nelson

Eva Nelson

Eva Nelson of Livingston passed away on June 5 at the age of 82.

She was born in Brody, Poland (now Ukraine) to Shlomo Zalman and Bayla (Bertha) Brauner. In 1941, the Nazis took her father on a train; it was the last time she saw him. When her mother heard rumors of the imminent liquidation of the Brody ghetto, she and Eva escaped. They hid in the woods and traveled at night to a farm they knew of. Eva and her mother hid in a hayloft in a barn, above the animals, for 18 months. When they heard that the Nazis were approaching, they hid in the corn fields. They remained there until the Russians liberated them in the spring of 1945.

Shirley Ann Ferguson

Shirley Ann Ferguson, 89, a long-time resident of Livingston, New Jersey, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Saturday, June 6, 2020. Shirley was the loving wife of George A. Ferguson, Jr.

Born in Franklin, Shirley grew up in Sparta. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sparta, and graduated from Newton High School in 1948. In 1951 Shirley graduated as a registered nurse (RN) from Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing.

In 1956 Shirley and George settled in Livingston to raise their family. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Livingston and, through the years, made many friends and was active in the various activities supported by the church’s women’s group. She enjoyed road trips with her

She enjoyed road trips with her family to Ortley Beach, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Minnesota. Fun trips with the Livingston AARP and Senior Groups, and regularly exercising with the Healthy Bones were favorites too.

Jonathan Bruce Kiselik

Jonathan Bruce Kiselik died on June 9 at age 56. He grew up in Livingston and later lived in Glen Ridge and Lincoln Park. He leaves his parents, Teri and Paul Kiselik of Livingston; a brother, Daniel (Alice) of Baltimore, Maryland; his nephews, James and Andrew; and so many long-standing friends. To quote one, “The enduring nature of true friendships, like that with Jon, is their ability to persist in spite of age and wear, and, after death, that their memories serve as guideposts for life’s passion, perseverance, and unpredictability.” Jon loved people and they responded to his kindness and warmth.
