Services To Be Held For Dr. Emmanuel Montero

Dr. Emmanuel B. Montero, 84, of Livingston, died on Saturday, September 19, 2020.

Dr. Montero was born on May 31, 1936, in Misamis Occidental, Philippines. He was a resident of Livingston for 40 years before moving to Mendham, New Jersey.

He was an anesthesiologist at Bayonne Medical Center before retiring.

Husband of the late Pamela Montero, he is survived by his children, Melissa Montero, Theresa D'Aloia (Michael), Christopher Montero (Kristina), Amy Alfano (Phil); ten grandchildren; and five sisters. He was also predeceased by four brothers.

Visitation will be held at Paul Ippolito-Dancy Memorial, 9 Smull Avenue, Caldwell, on Friday, September 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be at St. Rose of Lima Church, East Hanover, on Saturday, September 26, at 11 a.m., followed by entombment at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, East Hanover.

Bernice F. Weill

Bernice F. Weill of Livingston, New Jersey passed away on Monday, September 14, of natural causes.

She was 96 years old, and had lived the last year of her life at Brandywine Living in the town of Livingston. She had previously resided in the same town since 1954.

Born in Newark, New Jersey in 1923, Bernice pursued a career as an educator and learning disabilities specialist. Respected as a specialist within the Livingston School District for over 30 years, she also published several articles and learning games in the field of learning disabilities.

Bernice was married to Dr. Carol E. Weill, a professor of Chemistry at Rutgers University, Newark. Their loving marriage lasted for almost 48 years, until his death in 1995.

Theresa J. Del Tufo

Theresa J. Del Tufo (née Melchionne), 91, passed away at home after a brief illness with family at her side on September 12, 2020 in Livingston, New Jersey.

Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Theresa was a graduate of Battin High School and attended Kean College. As a young woman, she worked for the Simmons Company in Elizabeth. Moving to Livingston in 1959, she spent much of her life there raising her family.

After her youngest son was in elementary school, she joined the staff at St. Philomena School (later Aquinas Academy) in Livingston and spent many years as the resource room teacher, helping students improve their reading skills.

Edward O. Zielke

Edward O. Zielke, age 74, of Livingston, New Jersey, died suddenly on Friday, September 4, 2020.

A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Philomena’s Church, 386 South LivingstonAvenue, Livingston, New Jersey, on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 10 a.m. A private cremation will follow.

The family will receive their friends at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 East Mt. Pleasant Avenue Livingston, New Jersey, on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

Ed was a police officer, serving the community of Livingston for 40 years before his retirement as a Lieutenant in 2011. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Ed was an avid sportsman; he enjoyed fishing and hunting with his best pal, his dog, Colt Commander. He was a member of the Lucky Strike Sportsmen’s Club, the Livingston Elks, and the Knights of Columbus, and for many years, served as an usher at St. Philomena’s Church.

Vivian Frances Welch

Vivian Frances Welch, 95, of Livingston, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 7, 2020.

Known as “Mickey” to her friends and family, she was born on March 21, 1925, in Newport, Rhode Island. She was one ofthree children to Charles and Johanna Murphy.

Vivian married Kenneth Welch, former Mayor of Livingston, on May 15,1944, at St. Mary’s Church inNewport. They had two children: Debby and Ken Jr.

Vivian leaves behind herbrother, Charles Murphy, and her son, Ken.

At Vivian’s request, there will be no open services.

Will Plan Memorial For Susan Gechtman

Susan Gechtman (nee Nieuzytek), 63, of Morris Plains, died on Friday, August 28.

Born in Newark to the late Nancy and Steven Nieuzytek, Mrs. Gechtman grew up in Livingston and was a graduate of Livingston High School. She lived for many years in Morris Plains.

She is survived by her husband, Peter Gechtman; and her siblings, Kathleen Rice, Scott Nieuzytek and his wife, Naomi. She was predeceased by her brother, Steven Nieuzytek.

Mrs. Gechtman was cremated and there will be no service at this time. The family intends to celebrate her life at a later date.

Denver Wallace

Denver Wallace, 93, passed away peacefully on August 8th in his home at Brightview Senior Living in North Andover, Massachusetts. Born in Johnson City, Tennessee, he was the son of Octor Hugh and Maude Wallace. He was predeceased by his brother, Charles L. Wallace.

Denver grew up in Johnson City, where he and his family were active members of the First Methodist Church. Throughout his life, Denver was active in various churches, where he worshipped, read scripture and sang in the choir. He was an active member of his beloved First Church Boxford since 1976 when he moved to Massachusetts.

Denver joined the Navy after graduating from high school. Upon completion of his military service, Denver earned his bachelor of science in business and graduated in 1950 from East Tennessee State University.

Services Were Private For Kitty Kleinhandler

Kitty Carol Kleinhandler, a longtime resident of Livingston, died on Friday, August 21, at Arden Courts in Whippany. She was 92 years old.

Mrs. Kleinhandler was born and raised in Newark and graduated from Weequahic High School. She had been active with the Infants Welfare League, the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the UJA.

Predeceased by her husband, Leonard, and her brother, Alan, she is survived by her children: Donna and her husband, Stuart Shoengold; Andrea and her husband, Neil Rothstein; four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Phyllis K. Richardson

Phyllis K. Richardson, a retired librarian, passed away peacefully at her home in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, on August 17, 2020, aged 89.

Born in New York to Louise and Philip Kallenberg, she graduated from Richmond Hill High School, earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Syracuse University, and an M.S. in Laboratory Science from Columbia. Phyllis later obtained a Professional Certificate in Library Science from Caldwell College. She was a Sister of Kappa Delta sorority.

Graveside Service Held For Bernard Sherman

Bernard Ralph Sherman of Livingston died at St. Barnabas Medical Center on Sunday, August 16. He was 86 years old.

Born and raised in Newark, Mr. Sherman was a pharmacist and worked for many years at Chase Drugs in Newark.

He was predeceased by his wife, Carole, in 2008, and is survived by his daughter, Ellen Sherman.
