Services Were Held For Antoinette Schifano

Antoinette T. Schifano, 89, of Livingston, died on Friday, November 29.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 4, at Shook’s Cedar Grove Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Cedar Grove and interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.

Herman Grant

Herman Grant

Herman Grant of Livingston, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died peacefully at home on Monday,December2,2019,justsix weeks short of his 100th birthday. He was born January 11, 1920, in Herre, Norway.

At the young age of 12, and for the next ten years, Herman served in the Merchant Marine, commencing as a mess boy and then as a deckhand. During that time, he was torpedoed twice by German U-boats.

In 1942, after jumping ship in Brooklyn, New York, Herman joined the 99th Battalion, known as The Norwegian Ski Troops/ Special Forces. After training for two years at Camp Hale, Colorado, he participated in the invasion of Normandy, the Battles of Cherbourg, Caan, Falaise Pocket, and Canals in Holland, as well as the Battle of the Bulge.

From there, the 99th Battalion was sent to Norway for the German surrender. Herman was part of the troops that liberated Norway.

Services Were Held For Alvin Simon, 88

Alvin Simon ofVerona, formerly of Livingston, died on November 9.

He served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was the owner of Barry’s Men’s Clothing in Bloomfield and Livingston.

Mr. Simon is survived by his second wife, Joyce; his daughter, Cindy (Pat) Simon of Metuchen; his son, Steven (Madelyn) Simon of Florida; his stepdaughters, Patty Katz of Chatham and Linda Goldberg of Florida; his sister, Linda Davidson of Verona; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Howard (Barbara), of Verona in 2017.

Graveside services were held at King Solomon Cemetery in Clifton on November 12 with arrangements by J. L. Apter Memorial Chapels of Cedar Grove.

Mass Offered Nov. 23 For Rosemary Lucarelli

Rosemary Lucarelli of Livingston died October 28 at the age of 64.

A Memorial Mass was offered for her on Saturday, November 23, in St. Philomena Roman Catholic Church in Livingston. Arrangements were by the Paul Ippolito-Dancy Memorial, Caldwell.

Born in Newark, Ms. Lucarelli lived in Bloomfield before moving to Livingston in 2000. She was employed as an REO manager with Weichert Realtors in Morris Plains for many years.

Ms. Lucarelli is survived by her husband, Michael Trezza; her brother, Louis, and his wife, Diane Lucarelli; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Anthony and Gwen Trezza, Carmine Trezza, Elizabeth and Frank Rossi, and Cathy and Richard Gilchrist.

The family has requested that flowers be omitted.

Funeral Services Held For Michael Mitschele

Michael Douglas Mitschele died in his sleep on Thursday, November 21. He was 63 years old.

Raised in Livingston, Mr. Mitschele was a 1974 graduate ofWest Essex High School. He lived in Roseland for over 25 years, where he ran Baer Concrete and was a founding member of the Roseland First Aid Squad. He later lived in Pine, Colorado, and in Asbury Park for the past six years.

Mr. Mitschele is survived by his daughters Melissa (Ron Brizzie) and Dawn (Tory Henry); his son, Daniel (Erin); his longtime partner, Kelly Bogart; and five grandchildren.

He is also survived by his parents, Herbert J. Jr. and Joyce Mitschele; and his siblings, Clinton Mitschele, Cheryl Eichmann, Louis Mitschele, Patricia Beaumont, and Lisa Campbell.

Mr. Mitschele was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Evans and Virginia Mitschele; and a brother, Herbert J. Mitschele III.

John J. Farrell Dies in Washington

John Joseph Farrell Jr., formerly of Livingston, died at home on Saturday, November 16, in Des Moines, Washington.

Born in Springfield, Mr. Farell was educated at St. Benedict’s Prep and Georgetown University. He served in Korea as a lieutenant in the USAF, and was a Wall Street businessman and entrepreneur.

He and his former wife, Mary Jo Heck, raised their children in Livingston. When they separated, Mr. Farrell moved to New York City.

Mr. Farrell was predeceased by his son, Jay; his former wife, Mary Jo; and his brother, Jimmy. He is survived by his children, Lisa and Christopher; his wife, Galena; his brother, Billy (Alvera); and his sisters, Peggy McGuire and Cathy Rock.

Alfred Pichat

Alfred Pichat

Alfred Pichat passed away at age 85 on Sunday, November 17. He was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1934. He graduated from the Instituto Otto Krause with a degree in electrical engineering. He also served in the Argentine army, Ejército Argentino, before emigrating to the United States in 1959. Alfred married in 1960 and moved to Livingston with his wife, Eleanor, where they lived and raised their family for 58 years. Alfred worked for over 30 years with G-V Controls in Livingston, where he was awarded a patent for airflow sensor technology. His long record of community service includes umpiring Little League games; refereeing adult soccer matches; working with the Ely Cemetery and the Livingston Historical Society; and serving as a volunteer handyman for Livingston senior citizens. He was also a founding member of the Livingston Babe Ruth Baseball League, an avid tennis player, and a Formula 1 racing fan.

Funeral Mass Offered For Raymond W. Ford

Raymond W. Ford of Livingston died Tuesday, November 12. He was 83 years old.

Visitation was held at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston on Sunday, November 17. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Monday, November 18, at St. Philomena Roman Catholic Church in Livingston. Private cremation followed.

Mr. Ford was the husband of Terri Ford for 55 years. He is also survived by his children, Karen Breen and her husband, Dan; and Susie Ford; and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Chris Ford, and his brother, Art Ford.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that donations in Mr. Ford’s name be made to the St. John’s Soup Kitchen of Newark, or the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Lauren Reinhardt

Lauren Reinhardt, 35, passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 in Livingston, NJ.

Lauren enjoyed many things nature oriented, including hiking, traveling, and photography. She also had an affinity for animals and their well-being.

Lauren was an amazing aunt to her nieces, and enjoyed playing with them and taking them to the pool.

Lauren was predeceased by her parents, Laurance and Marlyn Reinhardt. She is survived by her grandmother, Doris “Pat” Reinhardt; her dear sisters, Kelley Reinhardt and Jamie Rajkumar and her husband, Joseph; and her adoring nieces, Blake and Brooke.

Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, November 21 from 4-8 P.M. at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, Livingston, with a service to conclude the visitation at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Lauren’s name may be made to the St. Hubert’sAnimalWelfare Center, 575 Woodland Ave., Madison, NJ 07940.

Services Were Held For Evelyn Saran, 91

Evelyn Saran of Convent Station, formerly of Livingston, died in her sleep on Friday, November 15.

She was predeceased by her husband,Albert, and her son, Steven, and is survived by her daughter, Susan Blickman, and three grandchildren.

A graveside service was held on Sunday, November 17 at Beth Israel Memorial Park in Woodbridge. Arrangements were by Eden Memorial Chapels.
