Andrea Scala-Fenske Dies on December 10

Andrea Scala-Fenske, 78, formerly of Livingston, died on Tuesday, December 10. She was born in Jersey City and lived in Livingston for many years before moving to East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvnia, about 20 years ago.

Mrs. Scala-Fenske was an administrative assistant at Saint Barnabas Medical Center for 20 years, retiring in 2000.

She is survived by her husband, Richard H. Fenske; her children, Scott Fenske, Deborah and William Rodgers, Sean and Nicole Fenske, and Dawn and Robert Cloud; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She is also survived by her siblings, Gail Hain, Rosalie Scala, and Anthony P. Scala.Arrangements were handled by Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home.

Anthony “Tony” Hope

Anthony Hope passed away on December 6, 2019, at the age of 92. He was the son of Daniel and Mary Hope.

Tony was born and raised in the Roseville section of Newark, New Jersey. He attended Abington Avenue School and graduated from Central High School in 1945.

After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army and was assigned to the Counter Intelligence Corps in Linz,Austria. There, he helped displaced persons return to their home countries after World War II ended.

Upon returning to the United States, he married the love of his life, Marie (nee Colasanti) in June of 1952.

He attended Seton Hall University on the G.I. Bill and earned his B.S. and master’s degrees in education. He taught physical education, health, social studies, and driver’s education at Livingston High School. “Coach Hope” then became the athletic director there until his retirement in 1993.

Funeral on Friday For Emilio Menarguez

Former Livingston resident Emilio Menarguez died Monday, December 9, in Morristown. He was 81 years old.

Visitation will be held onThursday, December 12, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston. The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 13, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.

Born in Newark, Mr. Menarguez resided in Livingston for 26 years, before moving to Morris Township 23 years ago.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; his children, Greg and his wife, Barbara, of Basking Ridge, and Dona Zappulla and her husband, Joe, of Easton, Connecticut; his brother, Jules Menarguez of Little Egg Harbor Township; and seven grandchildren.

Herbert Bresky Dies at Age 100

Herbert Bresky of Boca Raton, Florida, formerly of Livingston, died December 7, at the age of 100.

Mr. Bresky was born in Elizabeth, grew up in Newark, and lived in Livingston for 35 years before retiring to Boynton Beach and Boca Raton, Florida.

He was in the first graduating class of the new Weequahic High School in Newark in 1936.

Mr. Bresky served in World War II, as a staff sergeant in the 169th Infantry. He served in New Guinea and in the invasion of the Philippines, where he was awarded several citations and the Bronze Star.

For 30 years after the war, he owned the Argyle Food Market in Orange and Livingston.

Mr. Bresky is survived by his sons, Mark Bresky of Succasunna, and Scott Bresky and his wife, Gail, of Randolph; and six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Gertrude Bresky, and his son, Rabbi Jan Bresky.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that donations be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Services Were Held For Barbara Nestler

Barbara Lee Nestler (née Zimmerman), 86, died on Saturday, December 7, at her residence in Brandywine at Livingston.

Mrs. Nestler taught third and fourth grades in the New Providence school system for 30 years before retiring. She earned a master's degree from Kean College and was an active member of Temple Emanu-El in Westfield, and of Hadassah.

Born in Newark, she lived in Mountainside, West Orange, and Boynton Beach, Florida, before moving to Livingston 2½ years ago.

Predeceased by her husband, Monroe Nestler, she is survived by her daughter, Susan Wohlgemuth and her husband, Jerry; her son, Gary Nestler, and his wife, Anna Winderbaum; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Menorah Chapels at Millburn on Monday, December 9.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Jewish Federation or to Parkinson's Disease Research.

James F. Molloy

James F. Molloy

James F. Molloy, age 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 1, 2019, at the Inglemoor Rehabilitation and Care Center in Livingston, surrounded by family members.

He was born on October 21, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York, to James F. and Mary (Kennington) Molloy, and attended Brooklyn Tech High School.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1948, served in the Korean War with the 1st Marine Division, and was awarded the Bronze Star for action at the Chosin Reservoir campaign in November of 1950.

On May 9, 1953, he married Dorothy Jean Russell. Together they had four sons and resided in Livingston.

Jim worked for more than 35 years for the Public Service Electric and Gas Company, ultimately as a senior construction supervisor. His special interests and hobbies included raising his four boys, freshwater fishing, cooking, and 4 p.m. (sharp) martinis. He also was an avid baseball fan (Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Yankees).

Mary Lynch

Mary Lynch of Livingston passed away on Friday, November 29, 2019.

Mary was born on October 11, 1922 to Mary and Anton Svetec of Newark. In 1946 she married William Lynch, and in 1950 Mary and William moved to Livingston where they raised their six children.

Mary was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She greatly enjoyed sewing and baking tasty Hungarian treats for her family and friends.

Mary had a devout Catholic faith, and she was a member of Saint Philomena parish for 69 years. Mary made many friends while supporting the parish in numerous ways, including as Girl Scout troop leader and president of the Rosary Alter Society. Mary was also a Eucharistic minister at Saint Barnabas Medical Center.

Max Insel Cohen

Max Insel Cohen of Livingston, 85, who died on Saturday, November 23, was born in Newark on New Year’s Eve. Max always said, “When I was born everyone celebrated.” His parents were Frieda Insel Cohen and Leroy F. Cohen.

Max graduated from Admiral Farragut Academy in Pine Beach, New Jersey, and then from Rider College in Trenton. From there he served in the US Army for two years. Subsequently, he entered the family business, Insel & Insel in Newark, and then, as an entrepreneur, established Max Insel Cohen, Inc., Animal Organs and Tissues for Research, serving all the major medical schools and research institutions throughout the greater metropolitan area.

Hold Private Service For Helen De Ghetto

HelenM.De Ghetto(néeZschack), 95, of Livingston died at her home on Wednesday, November 20.

The family received relatives and friends at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 4. The funeral was private.

Wife of the late Kenneth A. De Ghetto, Mrs. De Ghetto is survived by her daughter, Donna MacConnel of Rhode Island; her son, Glenn De Ghetto of Arizona; three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Born in Clifton, Helen was a longtime resident of Livingston.

Services Were Held For Jane Kocur, 98

Jane Kocur, 98, of Livingston, died on Wednesday, November 27.

Born in Newark to Stephanie and Frank Kiersten, Mrs. Kocur was a parishioner of St. Philomena Church and a member of the Oakleaf Club. She won an award for baking from Betty Crocker and her recipe was featured in Better Homes and Gardens.

Mrs. Kocur was predeceased by her husband, Stanley Kocur, and her siblings, Edward Kiersten and Helen Jarmusz. She is survived by her children, William (Terry) Kocur, Susan Kocur, Linda Kocur, and Nancy Taylor (Jon); two grandchildren; and her brother, Stanley Kiersten.

A funeral service was held at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home on Monday, December. 2, followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.
