“DO A GOOD TURN DAILY”

“DO A GOOD TURN DAILY” is the Boy Scout slogan and last Saturday, Scouts from Livingston Boy Scout Troop 12 did just that. While many were sleeping in on Saturday morning, members of Troop 12 gathered early to volunteer at the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. Located in Hillside, the food bank distributes 43 million pounds of food a year to more than 1,000 non-profi t programs, as well as more than 400 programs served by its partner distribution organizations.

David Cohen Is Named New Athletic Director for LHS

An accomplished teacher, supervisor, coach and player, David Cohen will be the new director of athletics for Livingston High School beginning July 1. He takes over the position from Patrick Genova, who is retiring at the end of this school year after 14 years in Livingston.

Volunteer Firefighters Extinguish Fire at Door of Burnet Street House

During the course of a busy week, Livingston's volunteer Fire Department extinguished a fi re at 25 Burnet Street on Saturday, March 21. According to fi re offi cials, a contractor had been using a torch on the patio, inadvertently causing the door and door frame to ignite. The fire was extinguished without incident, and damage was confined to the door frame.

Funeral Services For Ilan Altman

The death of Ilan Altman, a former Livingston resident, has been announced by his family. Mr. Altman, a 1986 LHS graduate and long-time Livingston resident, was 46 years old when he died on March 28. A 2001 graduate of Parsons School of Design, he earned a BFA in communication design. Mr. Altman was a marketing and magazine designer who was a creative partner at iDesign. Previously he worked at OK! Magazine, Meredith Publishing, and Time Out New York. A graveside funeral was held on March 30, at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge.

Funeral Services Held For Jean S. Ellowitch

Funeral services were recently held for former Livingston resident Jean S. Ellowitch of West Orange. Mrs. Ellowitch died at home at the age of 95 on Thursday, March 26. Mrs. Ellowitch was predeceased by her husband, Sheldon; son-in-law, Steve Shreefter; and brother, Paul Siskind. She is survived by her daughter, Azi Ellowitch; her son, James Ellowitch and his wife, Gail; eight grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren. Robert R. Davis Sr. Dies After Long Illness

Robert R. Davis Sr. died at the age of 84 on March 30 after a long illness. Visitation will be held today and tomorrow, Thursday and Friday, April 2 and 3 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home in Livingston. A funeral service will be offered at the funeral home on Saturday, April 4 at 9:30 a.m. Born in Newark, Mr. Davis lived in Livingston for the past 46 years. He was a retired Detective Lieutenant with the Newark Police Department as well as a charter member of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh. He served as the assistant director of the St. Rose of Lima Imperial Lancers Junior Drum and Bugle Corps. He was also a Naval veteran of the Korean War. Predeceased by his wife, Margaret, who was known as Peggy, Mr. Davis is survived by his sons, Robert Jr. and his wife, Patricia; John and his wife Nadiya; and Michael and his former wife, Rita. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
