According to Board of Education president Barry Funt, people have started sending letters of intent to the Board to fill the one year unexpired term of Dr. David Jasin and the two-year term of Leslie Winograd. This is very good news. There is only one week left to submit such letters; the deadline is 4 p.m. Thursday, July 31. Two candidates will be selected by the remaining three Board members to fill the vacancies until the Monday, January 5, 2015 reorganization meeting. The opportunity to serve for four months is a great way to learn about the running of the school district and we encourage more people to get involved.

Morris Alan Updegrove of Livingston died Monday, July 21, at the age of 88. Services are private, under the direction of Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home Livingston Mr. Updegrove served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, also taking part in the Normandy Invasion on June 6, 1944. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lorraine Smarz Updegrove; his daughter, Debra, and her husband, Theodore Melhorn; and four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family has announced that memorial donations may be made to the Livingston First Aid Squad, 62 South Livingston Avenue Livingston, NJ 07039.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 21, at the Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel in Livingston for Dr. Eugene Abraham Stulberger. Dr. Stulberger, a resident of Livingston and East Hampton, New York, died July 19. Born April 23, 1938 in New York City, he had a 40 year career as a physician in Livingston. Dr. Stulberger is survived by his wife of 48 years, Audrey Katz Stulberger; his children, Adam Stulberger and his wife, Lisa, of Short Hills, and Jennifer Feinberg of Livingston; his brother, Peter Stulberger of Chicago, Illinois; his sister, Peggy Stotter of New York City; and seven grandchildren.

Former Livingston "first lady" Dorothy Naylor, 94, died Friday morning, July 18, at the Willows in Holmdel. Mrs. Naylor was privately cremated. Mrs. Naylor was born Dorothy Keiper on April 20, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York, where she grew up. She lived in Livingston for 36 years, before moving to Seven Lakes, North Carolina, in 1985. In 2009, she settled in Holmdel. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack Naylor, who served as mayor of Livingston in the 1960s. She is survived by her children, Gary D. Naylor and his wife, Mary, of Leland, North Carolina; and Lynn Davis and her husband, Lee, of Saint Cloud, Florida; along with four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
