Police Investigate Motor Vehicle Theft; Give Chase to Suspicious Individuals

This week, Livingston police officers investigated cases involving the theft, and attempted theft, of motor vehicles. Officers were also involved in a car chase in an effort to apprehend suspicious individuals who may have been targeting Livingston vehicles or homes.

Motor Vehicle

On Sunday, September 24, at 11:30 a.m., a motor vehicle theft from a driveway on Sandalwood Drive was reported. That morning, the resident of the home looked out the window to find that a Range Rover was missing from the driveway. According to police, it may have been unlocked with a key left inside. The investigation is continuing.

Calderone to Run For School Board

The seat is currently filled by Board member Charles “Buddy” August, who is seeking reelection.

Resident Creates Scarves To Fight Ovarian Cancer

Livingston resident Michele Dippold Connolly is creating and selling hand-dyed teal scarves to raise money for the fight against ovarian cancer.

In commemoration of September as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, Connolly, who works as a patient liaison at Morristown Medical Center and creates hand-dyed clothing items for her company, Groovy Elegance 8, will be offering “infinity style” designs in teal, with 100% of all proceeds going to ovarian cancer research.

Superintendent of Schools Speaks About Random Drug Testing at High School

During its conference meeting on Monday evening, the Livingston Township Council heard a presentation by superintendent of schools Chris Steffner about using random drug testing as a deterrent and early intervention strategy at Livingston High School.

“The research is undisputed that if you delay the onset or diminish the frequency, you reduce the odds of addiction,” she said.

Deer Management Program Under Way

The Township of Livingston is conducting a deer management program on Township-owned lands now through February 17, 2018. The program runs during the day, beginning one-half hour before sunrise and ending one half-hour after sunset each day.

Livingston’s deer management program is held during the regular New Jersey state hunting season. Only bow hunting is allowed, and all hunters shoot from tree stands downward toward the ground. The lands being used will be restricted, and the public is prohibited from accessing the property at certain hours on certain days through February 17, 2018, when the deer management program ends.

Ordinance Enacted to Establish Energy Aggregation Program

The Township Council enacted two ordinances at its meeting on Monday evening, including one to authorize the establishment of an energy aggregation program for the township, and another regarding township employee salaries. The Council also proposed several ordinances that evening.

Energy Aggregation

The Council passed an ordinance to establish an energy aggregation program in the township. The concept of energy aggregation is to take advantage of energy deregulation by establishing the township as an “aggregator,” or buyer, of power for residents so that it can seek bids for less expensive energy.

Volunteers Still Needed: Gearing Up For New Coat Drive Season

The Livingston Philanthropies, now in its seventh season of operation, is gearing up for its upcoming coat drive while continuing its collection of toiletries and men’s dress wear.
“We continue to request warm coats, winter accessories, hotel/travel sized toiletries, new cosmetics, and men’s dress attire,” notes Philanthropies founder Jeff Friedman, known affectionately as “The Coat Guy.” He also encourages “our Livingston  neighbors to join the ‘personal shopping for the homeless’ initiative.  All clothing items for the family are badly needed right now.  Remember, ‘if you see something, buy something.’ ”

LFD Holds Drill at Haines Pool

LFD HOLDS DRILL AT HAINES POOL: Livingston Fire Department volunteers spent time during their Tuesday evening drill drafting water out of the Haines Memorial Pool. The pumper truck used suction to take in water from the pool. The water was then sprayed onto the “practice field” at the Haines complex. While the township has a hydrant system, practicing this firefighting skill is important in the event that those break down in an emergency.
