Ponchos for Livingston Philanthropies

Article Image Alt Text

Livingston residents Susan Wollermann, left, her daughter Ally Beetle, and friend, Leslie Busold donated hundreds of new ponchos left over from a school pageant to Livingston Philanthropies, Inc. (LPI) for distribution to the homeless. “Here’s another example of Livingston residents stepping up for the needy,” said LPI founder and director Jeff Friedman. LPI volunteers are currently ordering diapers in all sizes and new men’s clothing, both of which are in high demand for those living below the poverty line. “The best way to help LPI keep these vital items rolling is to make a donation to LPI, P.O. Box 247, Livingston, NJ 07039, or by visiting us directly on PayPal at paypal.me/lpinj,” continued Friedman. “For those who can purchase diapers in all sizes online or at a local store, please email me for pick-up or drop-off at njhomeless@aol.com.”

Much of the three-hour Board of Education meeting on Monday, September 21, was spent revisiting and re-explaining the district’s reopening plan.

September 21 was also the first day that the first cohort of pre-K through grade two and self-contained special education students returned to their school buildings for hybrid learning.

The meeting was not streamed on Facebook, as it has been in the past, with “technical problems” cited as the reason for the change. Viewers were directed to join the webinar. It may be viewed on the Board of Education tab of the district website, livingston.org.

Vote by Mail

All 6.2 million New Jersey residents who are registered to vote should be receiving their mail-in election ballots this week, and those who intend to vote using them should do so sooner than later.

At a time when the U.S. Postal Service has been politicized and used as a tool, we must trust our institutions not to fail us, but still take every precaution we can to protect against it happening. That means returning the ballots using secure drop boxes, and voting as early as possible to ensure the ballots arrive on time. Recentlyappointed postmaster general Louis DeJoy has admitted to slowing down the speed of the mail this summer, causing delays and chaos that some say people in power are using to delegitimize the very legitimate process of voting by mail. We should not be afraid to utilize this means of voting.
