Longtime Resident Eleanor Torr Dies

Eleanor G. Torr, 90, died on Wednesday, January 4, in Succasunna. Born in Newark, she had lived in Livingston for more than 60 years. Mrs. Torr is survived by two sons, Phillip Jr. (Christine), Patrick (Roseanne); daughter-in-law, Ginny; five grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Phillip Sr., and one son, Nicholas. Funeral arrangements were by Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home. The family suggests that donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Hold Service Today For Gloria Fershko

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, January 12, for Gloria Epstein Fershko, at Bernheim Apter Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel in Livingston. Mrs. Fershko, 91, died on Saturday, January 7 in Delray Beach, Florida, after a brief battle with lymphoma. The daughter of Rose Jennis Epstein and Herman Epstein, Mrs. Fershko lived in Newark and Livingston before moving to Florida. A University of Iowa graduate, Mrs. Fershko was predeceased by her husband, Reuben Fershko, and partners, Bob and Jack. She is survived by her daughters, Jane Fershko Taylor, Amy Sue Ellis, and Nancy Rachel Weir; and four grandchildren.

Donald L. Higgins Dies on December 25

Former Livingston resident Donald L. Higgins died on December 25. He was 88 years old. He is survived by his wife, Stella (nee Caprio) of Clinton; his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Fred Fania of Tewksbury; his son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Una Higgins of Great Falls, Virginia; and four grandchildren. Mr. Higgins was predeceased by his parents, William and Agnes (nee McNaughton); and his siblings, William, Shirley, Roberta, Arthur, and Barbara. Offer Mass Saturday For Dorothy Foster

Dorothy M. Foster (nee Palmer) died at her residence in Livingston on Saturday, December 31. She was 75 years old. Visitation will take place at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston, 145 East Mt. Pleasant Avenue, on Friday, January 6, from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral Mass will be offered at St. Raphael’s Church, 346 East Mt. Pleasant Avenue on Saturday, January 7, at 10 a.m., followed by the committal service at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Mrs. Foster was born in Livingston and was a life-long resident of the township. Predeceased by her husband, Donald, she is survived by her sons, Donald J. (Cindy) and Daniel J. (Robin); her sisters, Katherine Schwarz (Robert) and Patricia Rigby (Gordon); and five grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Livingston First Aid Squad, 62 South Livingston Avenue, Livingston, NJ 07039.

Funeral Services Held For Edward Dim, 93

Edward Murray Dim, also known as Murray Dim, died at home in Scottsdale, Arizona on December 26. Born in Newark, Mr. Dim lived in East Orange and Livingston and was a member of the East Orange Fire Department for 30 years. After retiring he worked for the Essex County Court House. Mr. Dim joined the Air Force during World War II, serving in India. He maintained a dual membership with the Livingston and Scottsdale Masonic Lodges, and volunteered at the Scottsdale Healthcare Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Edie; and two sons, David Martin of Brooklyn, New York, and Edward Stephen of Scottsdale. He was predeceased by his sisters, Rose Bailin and Belle Dim, and his brother, Sam Dim. He was the son of the late Max and Esther Dim. Arrangements were by Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home. Mary Patrice Koenig of Livingston died December 17. A celebration of her life will be held today, Thursday, December 22, at 8:45 a.m. at Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Avenue, Roseland. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. at St. Philomena’s Church, Livingston. Memories and condolences may be shared at farmerfuneral.com. Ms. Koenig was employed by Chubb Insurance in Warren, as an insurance underwriter for more than 25 years. Following her retirement, she worked at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn. She had lived briefly in Europe. Predeceased by her parents, Mary and Albert, she leaves behind her siblings, Jo-Ann Severinsen (Bob), Kathleen Cullen (John), Peter Koenig (Ginny), and Bridgetta Curcio (Tom).
