Livingston Fields First World Series Softball Team

Thirteen Livingston athletes will go down in the local history books as members of the township’s first softball team to participate in the Little League World Series. Last week, the team competed in the World Series sectionals, which were held in Little Ferry. While the team did not advance in the tournament, its participation was considered a learning experience and a great first effort.

Livingston Little League baseball teams have participated in the annual World Series tournament since its founding in the late 1950s. This was, however, the first time that a township softball team competed.

Resurgent Dodgers Win Three in a Row

After a difficult 3-1 start to the season, the Livingston Dodgers of the U.S. Over 30 Men’s Baseball League seem to have “righted the ship,” having won their last three games.

This past Sunday in Livingston, the Dodgers defeated the Staten Island Hurricanes, 11-6, avenging a loss earlier in the season.

Lacrosse Players Earn Major Recognition

Livingston High School lacrosse players Stephen Russo and Adam Geffner were honored as student-athletes at Madison High School, during the recent Gill Gibbs All Star Games.

Russo, who participated as a player in the New Jersey Senior All- Star game, was selected to the most prestigious First Team, All State as a goalie by the New Jersey Lacrosse Coaches’ Association. Among Russo’s other post-season honors, he was selected as First Team, All Super Essex Conference; First Team, All Kimber Conference; Player of the Year for the Kimber Conference; winner of the Brian Piccolo Award as chosen by Livingston UNICO; and winner of the Charles Winters Senior Athlete of the Year, as chosen by the coaches of LHS athletics for the 2016-17 school year. Russo will continue his education and lacrosse career at the division 1 Cleveland State University.

Triple A Champions

TRIPLE A CHAMPIONS: Team Houston took the championship title in the Livingston Triple A baseball tournament. The team was undefeated in the post-season tournament, with a 4-3 win in the championship game over runner-up Baltimore. Shown are Brett Stecklow, Jacob Handler, Jake Popkin, Kyle Chen, Joseph Meierhofer, Neel Murali, Rishab Bamzai, Jack Bohrer, Benjamin Epstein, Noah Fermaglich, and Drew Fermaglich. LHS Tennis Team In State Tournament

The Livingston High School boys’ varsity tennis team concluded its season at the New Jersey State Tournament.

Lancer first singles player and co-captain Earl Hsieh completed his high school tennis career with a 1-6, 5-7 loss to fourth seeded Justin Wang of Delbarton in the New Jersey State Singles Tournament. Hsieh was seeded in the 9-16 bracket and won three matches before he lost in the round of 16. Hsieh’s 2017 win-loss season was 22-9, and he compiled a 4-year career record of 88-28. He will play for Case Western University in the fall.

Tennis Team Players Compete in State Tournaments

First singles player Earl Hsieh advanced to the round of 16 with straight set wins against Thomas Schung (Summit High School); Alfred Kandaka, (Trenton Central High School); and Leonte Wilder, (Plainfield High School). Hsieh was scheduled to face fourth seeded Justin Wang of Delbarton in the round of 16.
