Football Team Scores Victory Over Millburn

The Livingston High School varsity football team traveled to Millburn High School for a rivalry game, walking away with a 27-12 victory. A large crowd of Livingston supporters made the cross-county journey on Saturday, September 9. The week two victory marked Livingston’s first win of the season.

Junior quarterback Jack Ernst had a strong start, completing 14 of 21 passes. Ernst connected with juniors Marco Fusari and Joe Cullen for touchdowns. The offense was in sync for the entirety of the game, as Millburn failed to force a turnover. Sophomore Will Egner took over at quarterback in the fourth quarter, and he proved himself to be a reliable option.

Begin Paving Tennis Courts

BEGIN PAVING TENNIS COURTS: This week, the contractor rebuilding the tennis courts at Livingston High School has begun final paving of the two courts nearest Littell’s Pond, and was finalizing preparation of the base course prior to paving the other courts. After final paving, the courts need to cure before being color-coated.

LANCERS MIX IT UP!: The Livingston High School Lancer football team, cheerleaders, and marching band took to the field they will share throughout the fall sports season with a bonding exercise on August 24. The event is designed to build a greater understanding and appreciation among the students of the talent and work that goes into each of their activities. “Every Friday and Saturday night when we’re out here, it’s all about the green and white,” said Michael Jedwabnik, assistant director of the LHS marching band.

Winning Streak Extends To 14 Games and League Championship

The Livingston Dodgers of the U.S. Over Thirty Baseball League have extended their winning streak to 14 games and the USOT Northern Division league championship.

On Thursday, August 24, the Dodgers defeated the Staten Island Bombers, 10-6, to take their 13th consecutive game. Kevin Thompson was the winning pitcher, toiling through five and one-third innings. He scattered six hits and gave up six runs with just three being earned. Craig Marsden came on the mound to pitch the last two-thirds inning.

U.S.O.T. Dodgers’ Winning Streak Hits 11

The Livingston Dodgers of the U.S. Over Thirty Baseball League took two more games last week to run their consecutive winning streak to 11 games.

On Thursday night, August 17, the Dodgers took a 15-5 win over the Staten Island Bombers at Okner Field in Livingston. Kevin Thompson was credited with the win on the mound, while Craig Marsden finished up the game in relief.

Summer Team Champs

SUMMER TEAM CHAMPS: The Livingston Little League 9/10 Summer team captured the District 8 championship with a 15-5 win over Nutley American. The team advanced to the Sectional finals, defeating Englewood Cliffs and Rutherford before falling to Elmora. Gathered around the championship banner are players Ben Leeds, Jared Levine, Ben Reed, Matthew Lopa, Max Peri, Julian Schultz, Anthony Pellegrino, Joe Meierhofer, E.J. Frayne, Miles Handy, Jackson Becker, and John Marco Maiello. Standing are coaches Dave McLaughlin, Shane McLaughlin, and Mike Sorrentino. Greg Bushwell also coaches the team.

Livingston Athletes Take Home Team USA Medals

Sisters Allison and Gayle Edelstein, along with Jamie Shneck, all stand-out athletes at Livingston High School, took home bronze and gold medals for their USA volleyball teams at this summer’s Maccabiah Games in Israel.

Allison, 22, and Jamie, 21, each graduated from college in May 2017 and helped the USA Women’s Open Volleyball team earn the bronze medal over Argentina. Gayle, 17, and a June 2017 graduate of Livingston High School, led the USA Junior Volleyball team to a gold medal over host Israel. Gayle and Allison were setters for their respective teams; Jamie was a middle.

Girls on the Run Registration Opens

Registration has begun for Livingston Girls on the Run, a physical activity-based personal development program for girls in the third through eighth grades. The fall 2017 program will be offered at the Livingston Oval on Tuesdays and Fridays from 3:45 to 5 p.m., beginning Tuesday, September 12.

Chelsea Altchek, Randi Cohen, Wendy Keyes, Roberta Samuels, Joanne Szama, and Sue Wells, trained volunteer coaches, will guide and mentor the group, which can include eight to 20 girls.
