LHS Boys’ Cross Country Team Wins SEC Liberty Division Championship

The Livingston Lancer boys’ cross country team capped off an undefeated season in the Liberty Division by winning the Super Essex Conference (SEC) Championship race on Tuesday, October 3.

The boys toed the start line of the race with all eight conference teams focused and determined to upset the Lancers, who earned the number one seed by going undefeated in dual meets. Noted coach Jim Memory, “As the favorite in the race, the Lancers refrained from getting complacent and instead focused on running their best race of the season at this meet. The boys made it their goal to all run their personal best times on this course at this meet, and they accomplished just that. With all seven boys running personal best times, the Lancers ran their best team race with the team title on the line.”

Football Team Defeats Columbia

The Livingston High School varsity football team travelled to Columbia High School on Friday night, October 6, and won in a lopsided 39-12 victory. This win marked Livingston’s second consecutive road win.

“They have established themselves as a solid road team,” said head coach Robert Breschard. “Livingston’s team chemistry and great individual performances proved to be a winning combination.”

Cross Country Team Competes in Two Meets

The Livingston High School girls’ cross country team competed at two venues against multiple opponents this past week.

In week three of Super Essex Conference (SEC) competition at Branch Brook Park in Newark, the Lady Lancers took on two divisional foes and two additional conference opponents. The girls also traveled to the Central Park of Morris County in Randolph to compete at the Bernie Magee Class Meet. “This was a different type of competition, as runners battled each other over the course against only their school class peers,” noted coach Dave Czeizinger.

Lancer Varsity Football Team Falls to Montclair

The Livingston High School varsity football team suffered its first loss at home this season after a tough defeat by Montclair High School, 41-0. Despite the loss, coach Robert Breschard said that the Friday night game offered several bright spots for the Lancers.

With starting quarterback Jack Ernst sidelined due to an injury, senior Ryan Cardona and sophomore Will Egner received a lot of playing time. Notably, Egner completed all of his passes for a combined 24 yards.

Boys’ Cross Country Team is “Up and Running”

The Livingston High School boys’ cross country team began its 2017 season with a great start, said coach James Memory, picking up wins against Barringer (15-50), Irvington (19-44) and Verona (15-50). The team ran in what was the first of five races that will be held at Branch Brook Park in Newark this season.

The Lancers were led by sophomore Philmon Mehari, who averaged 5:39 per mile on his way to a 17:33 finish. Mehari defeated all Liberty Conference opponents and finished eighth overall in the race.
