Breaks Swim Record

Maura Mullaney of Livingston, a member of the swimming and diving team at the College of the Holy Cross, broke the school record in the 200 yard butterfly at the Harold Anderson Invitational. The meet was held November 17 to 18 in the Tootell Aquatics Complex at the University of Rhode Island.

Placing second in the event overall, Mullaney hit the wall at 2:07.00, besting the previous Holy Cross record of 209.33 set in 2010.

Wins Championship

WINS CHAMPIONSHIP: Recently, the Livingston Stealth - White fall baseball team won the USABL 9U Central North Division Championship. The team won three playoff games to capture the title, including an exciting 18-12 come-from-behind win in the finals. The team was down, 11-6, and scored 12 runs in the bottom of the fifth to capture the win. The Stealth finished the fall season with a 9-3 overall record.

Football Team Defeats Bayonne By One Point in Overtime Play

The Livingston High School varsity football team heads into the play-offs on a roll after an overtime 27-26 victory against Bayonne High School. The Lancers’ victory took place on Friday, November 3, at Livingston High School. Livingston finished the regular season with a 5-3 overall record, with one tie. Additionally, the Lancers accumulated 93.5 power points, which qualifies for the eighth seed in the play-offs.

SCORE VICTORY IN STATE TOURNAMENT: The Livingston High School girls’ varsity soccer team defeated West Orange in the NJSIAA quarter-finals on Thursday, November 2, at home. The Lancers tied the game in the second half. The teams played two overtime periods, which ended in a 1-1 tie. The Lancers prevailed in the shoot-out by outscoring the Mountaineers, 4-1, to advance in the state tournament.

Devils Squirts Win

DEVILS SQUIRTS WIN: The New Jersey Youth Devils Squirt Minor Team, which includes Livingston members, won the 2017 Philadelphia Fall Classic Hockey Tournament this past weekend. The team played five games over three days against teams from New York City, Long Island, and Maryland. Team members from Livingston include forwards Matthew Zocks and Trenton Fei, and goalie Andrew Downey.

Team Claims Back-to-Back County Championships

The Livingston High School girls’ varsity soccer team tied for the Essex County championship after a game against Montclair Kimberley ended in a 1-1 tie in double overtime.

“For the first time since 1993, the Lady Lancers can call themselves back-to-back champions,” said coach Paul Raiz. “This year’s team has overcome a lot since the beginning of the season, including injuries, line-up changes, and new formations. It was just three weeks ago that the Lady Lancers found themselves one game under .500 and desperately trying to find their identity and save their season. Finally, things clicked for the ladies and, if adversity builds character, then this team has climbed Mount Everest.”

NEW JETS TURF FIELD UNVEILED AT LIFETOWN: About 100 people attended the Friendship Circle’s festivities on Tuesday afternoon, October 24, to inaugurate the new NFL/NY JETS turf field and welcome Jets players to play football with children. In partnership with the United Way of Northern New Jersey, the New York Jets, NRG and NFL Foundation contributed $280,000 to install a 24,000 square foot field at LifeTown.

LHS Cross Country Hosts 14th Annual Lancer Invitational; Boys Win Team Championship and Mehari Wins Individual Title

The Livingston High School cross country program hosted the 14th annual Lancer Invitational on Friday, October 13 at Littell's Pond. The meet was attended by opponents from Kearny, Madison, New Brunswick, Morris Knolls, and Caldwell. With renovations being made at the tennis courts, the cross country course had to be modified.

Despite the changed course, and the date being Friday the 13th, the home team had a great day. For just the fifth time in the history of the meet, the boys' varsity squad won the team title, scoring an impressive 41 points and recording a team average of 17:59 on their way to victory. In addition, the individual champion was Lancer Philmon Mehari.
