Hold Memorial Service For Terry Ehret, 70

Terry Ehret of Morristown, formerly of Livingston, died on Monday, October 8. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Thursday, October 25, at Saint Luke's Episcopal Church, 73 South Fullerton Avenue, in Montclair. Born in Newark, Mr. Ehret was a courier for GlaxoSmithKline and a driver for Cox Enterprises. He was a graduate of East Orange High School and a United States Army veteran. He was a member of the Newark Bait and Fly Casting Club for over 40 years. Mr. Ehret was predeceased by his parents, Henrietta and Alois Ehret, and his friend, Marilyn Silver. He is survived by his brothers, Kirby (Mary Ehret) and Michael (Julie Fortunato). Funeral Service Held For Raymond Milewski

Raymond Milewski of Livingston died on Thursday, October 18. He was 89 years old. Formerly of Clifton, Mr. Milewski was born in Newark to Henry and Helen Milewski. He was an electrical worker for Western Electric for over 30 years and served in the U.S. Navy Reserve. He was a member of the Livingston Old Guard. The funeral service was held on Monday at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home.

Lee V. (Grasso) Adamski

Lee V. (Grasso) Adamski, wife of the late Joseph Adamski of Livingston, New Jersey, passed away at home October 12. She was born Pasqualina Veronica Grasso on January 17, 1925, to Nicola and Rose (Lardieri) Grasso of Newark, New Jersey. In addition to her husband, Joseph, she was preceded in death by her parents and six siblings: Joseph, Marie, Carmen, Julia, Victor, and Armando. She is survived by her daughters, Beverly and her husband Anthony Nardiello of West Orange, New Jersey; and Debra and her husband, James O’Neill, of Midlothian, Virginia; five grandchildren, Nicole Munoz (Albert), Dr. Megan O’Neill, Lisa Nanartowicz (Joseph), Matthew O’Neill (Sydney), and Anthony Nardiello III (Nicole); and six greatgrandchildren. She will also be remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and dear friends. Lee was graduated from Central High School in Newark, New Jersey, and began her secretarial career with the law firm Frenetical & LaMorte.

Will Celebrate Mass For Betty Van Stratton

Betty Jane Van Stratton (née Barry), 93, of Seaside Park, died on September 26 in Novato, California. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, October 27, from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals in Seaside Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 27, beginning at 12 noon, at the parish of St. Junipero Serra at St. Catharine of Siena Church in Seaside Park. Mrs. Van Stratton met her first husband, Theodore “Ted” Kent Schuyler, while attending East Orange High School. After marrying, they moved to Rochester, New York and then to Green Bay, Wisconsin. Upon Mr. Schuyler’s death, Mrs. Van Stratton relocated to Livingston where she raised her children, continued her education, and met and married William “Bill” Van Stratton. Mrs. Van Stratton received B.A. and M.F.A. degrees from Montclair State University and retired from Montville Regional High School after 17 years of teaching.

Mass Will Be Held For Victoria Valente

Victoria Valente, 76, of Hyde Park, New York and a former 20-year resident of Livingston, died on October 1. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 5, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Reilly Bonner Funeral Home in Belmar. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 6, at Saint Catharine R.C. Church in Spring Lake. Mrs. Valente was an office manager for Con-Ov-Air-Corp. in East Brunswick for over 30 years, She was born in Portugal and moved to Elizabeth as a young girl. She also lived in Durham, North Carolina and Naples, Florida. She moved to Hyde Park, where she helped her daughter manage a bed and breakfast, in 2013. Mrs. Valente was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Aurora and Walter MacFarlane. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Victor Valente; and her daughter, Valerie Valente and her partner, Eric Miller.

Frances Goodman

Frances Goodman, 92, died on September 18, 2018. She was born in Newark, was graduated from South Side High School, and had lived for many years in Livingston. Mrs. Goodman earned a bachelor’s degree from Kean College and a master’s degree from Montclair State University. She was a long-time employee of the Newark Board of Education, working as a clerk, teacher and supervisor of a child study team. She also participated in the Life Long Learning Program at Caldwell College. She worked as a real estate salesperson, and enjoyed golf, mah jongg and travel. Mrs. Goodman was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence, and is survived by her son, Robert (Debra), and her sister, Alice Nadell. Memorial contributions may be made to Daughters of Israel in West Orange.

Funeral Mass Offered For Carmine Del Sordi

Carmine Charles Del Sordi of Livingston died September 18. He was 93 years old. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Raphael Roman Catholic Church in Livingston on Wednesday, September 26. Entombment followed at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Visitation took place on Tuesday, September 25, at the Galante Funeral Home in Caldwell. Born in Newark, Mr. Del Sordi moved to Livingston 54 years ago. He was a self-employed dairy wholesaler for many years before retiring. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was the husband of the late Marie (nee DeDeo). He is survived by his children, Carmine Del Sordi and Joanne Del Sordi; his brother, Armando Del Sordi; his sisters, Mary Anello and Sylvia Macchiaverna; and two grandchildren.

Celebrate Funeral Mass For Samuel Christiano

There will be a funeral Mass today, Thursday, September 27, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church in West Orange for Samuel Christiano of Livingston, who died September 21. Born in Orange, Mr. Christiano was graduated from West Orange High School in 1939. He interrupted his college studies to enlist in 1942 in the United States Army Air Force, and provided weather support for American air operations over occupied France, Normandy, and Nazi Germany. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and received the Army’s European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal. After the war, Mr. Christiano worked in factories and took law classes at night. He received an LL.B. degree from the Fordham University School of Law in 1949, and spent the next 40 years practicing law in New Jersey, including 30 years as attorney for the West Orange Board of Education. Seymour Handler

Seymour Handler, 86, formerly of Livingston, New Jersey and Edgartown, Massachusetts, passed away very peacefully on September 16, 2018 in Bath, Pennsylvania at Alexandria Manor. Seymour, brother to Paul Handler and Claire Handler-Warhaftig, was born November 26, 1931, in Newark, New Jersey to father Jacob and mother Yetta (Spector) Handler. He graduated from Weequahic High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a bachelor’s degree in history. He spent his 20s traveling widely throughout Europe, learning foreign languages, and writing in the Mexican countryside. Seymour married Rita Stoecker of West Germany in 1961, who predeceased him in 2006, and raised six children, including Chet Handler, who predeceased him in 1984, Roy Handler, Glen Handler, Simone Handler-Hutchinson, Shoshanna Handler, and Chelsea Handler. Seymour also enjoyed each of his eight loving grandchildren, Jake, Jordan, Seneca, Max, Nick, Teddy, Charley and Russell.

Funeral Mass was Held For Donna Francescone

A Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Raphael’s Church on Monday, September 17, for Donna Francescone (née Carmiche). She died on Tuesday, September 11, at age 84. Born in Newark, Mrs. Francescone was a resident of Livingston since 1968. She was worked in the billing office of New Jersey Bell Telephone Co. in Newark for many years before retiring, and was a former Women’s Essex County bowling champion. Mrs. Francescone was the wife of Carmine Francescone for 64 years; the mother of Dana DiGenova and the late Salvatore; the sister of Marie Wright, and the grandmother of three. Arrangements were by the Paul Ippolito-Dancy Memorial in Caldwell.
