Services were held on Sunday, July 8, for Anita Stern of Livingston, who died on July 5. Arrangements were handled by Menorah Chapels at Millburn. Mrs. Stern was born in Koblenz, Germany, to Oscar and Erna Mayer. She worked for the Bergen Community Blood Bank. She was predeceasd by her husband, Harry Stern, and is survived by two daughters, Susan Salant (Bart) and Diane Siegel (Marc), and five grandchildren. Former Livingston resident Mary Siccardi died Wednesday, July 25, at the age of 97. Visitation took place Monday, July 30, at the Codey and Jones Funeral Home of Caldwell. A funeral Mass was offered at Our lady of the Valley Roman Catholic Church, Caldwell, on Tuesday, July 31. Interment followed at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. She was an employment supervisor for 18 years with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company before her retirement in 1985. She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick Sr., and her siblings, Anna DiGisi and Anthony, Edward, Louis, Alfred, and Joseph Florio. Surviving are her children, Luana McDonnell and her husband, Robert; Joseph Siccardi; Sandra Stein and her husband, John, and Frederick Siccardi Jr.; and four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Dr. Robert S. Modlinger, M.D. succumbed on Monday, July 23, 2018, at age 72 following a long illness. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and later resided in Manhattan and Riverdale, Livingston, N.J., and Springfield, N.J. Dr. Modlinger attended Columbia University and Cornell University Medical College and did his medical residency and fellowship in endocrinology at Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Modlinger was chief of hypertension at the Veterans’ Administration Hospital in East Orange; assistant clinical professor of medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey; and chief of endocrinology at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair. He was a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Endocrinology. He did clinical research and authored several scientific papers, and had a private practice in endocrinology in the Caldwell and West Orange areas. Dr.

Leo M. Silverberg died July 30, 2018, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 98. Born and raised in Paterson, he lived in Livingston for the past 66 years. Leo was a tax specialist CPA and partner for M.R. Weiser and Company in Manhattan, retiring when he was 75 years old. He graduated from New York University, magna cum laude, with a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Commerce, Accounts and Finance. Leo was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Irene (Salz), and is survived by his children, Ilene Silverberg-Keslin and her husband, Michael, and Howard Silverberg and his wife, Melinda; and three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services were held July 6 for Rosalind (Roz) Schaeffer, who died on June 29. Born and raised in Newark, she lived for many years in Livingston and then in Hollywood and Hallandale, Florida, for almost 30 years. She moved to Topeka, Kansas several years ago. Mrs. Schaeffer graduated from South Side High School, Newark, and received a teaching degree from Newark State Teachers College. She taught for several years, later working in the physical therapy department at St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston and as a personal shopper. Predeceased by her husband of 74 years, Jerry, in 2017, she is survived by her three sons, David (Bobbi) of Topeka, Peter (Liz) of Nantucket, Massachusetts, and Kevin (Pat) of Roseland; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Former Livingston resident Robert E. Slater died Saturday, July 21, at his home in Mendham after a long illness. He was 78. Funeral services were held at Temple B’nai Abraham in Livingston on Monday, July 23, under the direction of the Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel, Livingston. The son of Louis and Emily Slater, Mr. Slater was born in Newark on July 6, 1940. He was a 1958 graduate of Columbia High School in South Orange, where he became a New Jersey state diving champion, and was inducted into the Columbia High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007. In 1962, he was graduated from Lehigh University, where he became an Eastern United States diving champion. After college, Mr. Slater served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964. A former resident of Short Hills and Livingston, Mr. Slater had lived in Mendham since 2001. He was the chairman of LRF Slater Companies, Inc. of Livingston, which owns Nero’s Grille.

Neil M. Larney, 80, of Livingston passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018. Born in Newark to Cornelius and Elizabeth Larney, Neil was the beloved husband of the late Barbara Larney; loving father of the late Timothy Larney and his wife Susan, Michael Larney, Eileen Larney, and Mary Press and her husband Robert; cherished grandfather of Andrew and Brian Larney, and Daniel and Matthew Press; dear brother of Gail Judge, Terence Larney and his wife Margaret, and Thomas Larney and his wife Lydia. Neil is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and close friends. Visitation will be held today, Thursday, July 26, from 4 - 8 p.m. at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave., Livingston. The funeral Mass will be Friday, July 27, at 10 a.m. at St. Philomena Roman Catholic Church, 386 S. Livingston Avenue, Livingston. Dr. Melvin Goldblat, age 76 of Fairfield, Connecticut and formerly of Livingston, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Norwalk Hospital in Norwalk, Connecticut. Dr. Goldblat was born in Newark, New Jersey, a son of the late Joseph and Jeanette Goldblat. Dr. Goldblat received his bachelor of science degree from the Massacusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) in 1964, his M.D. (cum laude) from Yale University School of Medicine in 1967, and completed his internship, residency and fellowship through Mount Sinai Hospital in New York (1967 to 1972).
