Services Were Held For Stanton Katsoff, 82

Former long-time Livingston resident, Stanton (“Stan”) H. Katsoff, died on Sunday, August 19. Services were held Tuesday, August 21, at Bernheim-Apter-Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel in Livingston. Mr. Katsoff was born in Phiadelphia, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Camden. At the time of his death, he lived in Florham Park. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Frances Katsoff; his children, Ken (Judy) Katsoff and Karen Katsoff; and two grandsons. Memorial donations may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY, or the Cancer Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.

Hold Funeral Services For Former Ad Director

George Weiss, former advertising director of the West Essex Tribune, died August 18. Funeral services were held Monday, August 20, at the Higgins Home for Funerals in Watchung, followed by interment at the Hebrew Cemetery of Samptown in South Plainfield. Mr. Weiss was predeceased by his wife of 29 years, Betty Bunin Weiss, who died in 1985; and his brother, Herbert, who died four days before him, on August 14. He is survived by his daughter, Laurie Ann Weiss-Braunstein (Mark); his son, Michael Lawrence Weiss (Cindy); three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; and his significant other of more than 30 years, Juliette Ratner. Mr. Weiss was advertising director for the West Essex Tribune from 1953 to 1974, and director of planning and development for Metro Associated Services in New York City from 1974 to 1987. He received numerous awards from the New Jersey Press Association (NJPA) for his advertising campaigns while at the Tribune.

Andrew Marcus

Andrew Laurence Marcus, age 54, died on August 9, 2018. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, August 25, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at Menorah Chapels at Millburn, 2950 Vauxhall Road, Union (Vauxhall), New Jersey. Friends will be received at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Formerly of Livingston, Andrew was the beloved son of Alfred and Marjorie Marcus; brother of Leslie (Phil) Wisoff and dear father of Tucker and Tanner Marcus. Andrew was an excellent athlete when he attended Livingston High School and Hiram College in Ohio. Andy was also an excellent skier as well as a ski instructor. He was employed as a securities broker for J. B. Hanauer & Company in New Jersey as well as many other firms. Andrew is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Lauren and Matthew Guskin, Lena and Norah Guskin; uncle to Rebecca Miriam Reiss; cousin to Robert and Susan Marcus and their children Katri, David and Jonathan; and to Peter and Elaine Marcus and their children, Phillip and Jennifer.

Funeral Was Held For Frances Jandoli

Frances Jandoli died on Friday, August 17, at the age of 90. Services were held at the Codey and Jones Funeral Home in Caldwell on Monday, August 20. Mrs. Jandoli grew up in Orange and lived in Livingston for many years. She worked at the Orange Valley Press and R.A. McDonough. She was a president of the Livingston Democratic Club and an Essex County Committeewoman and member of the Livingston Little League and Town Appearance Committee. Predeceased by her husband, Louis Jandoli, she is survived by her children, Steven (Elizabeth), Diane McDermott (Lawrence), and Carol Daly (Kent); and three grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that donations may be made to the Livingston Fire Department.

Robert Ehrich

Robert R. Ehrich, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Morristown Memorial Hospital. Born in Newark on September 30,1925, Robert was raised in East Orange and was a long-time resident of West Orange before moving to Livingston and then to Florham Park. He was a letter carrier for the East Orange Post Office for 42 years before retiring. He was past president of the National Association of Letter Carriers, a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in West Orange. He also coached girls’ basketball and boys’ baseball at St. Joseph’s School in West Orange and coached baseball at Seton Hall Prep School. He was an avid Yankee fan and participated in the Horseshoe Club in Caldwell. He proudly served in the United States Navy on the USS Pillsbury while serving in the Atlantic Theater during World War II.

Dr. Robert S. Kish

Dr. Robert S. Kish, 79, former Livingston school superintendent, passed away Friday, August 3 at his home in Milford Township, Pennsylvania. Born and raised in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, he was the son of Stephen Kish and Elizabeth Banyaeski and was married to Maryellen (Marrow) Kish for 56 years. Robert, an Army veteran with the rank of Captain, earned a doctorate from Rutgers University. He served as the superintendent of schools in Livingston for 12 years, and subsequently for the Pennridge school district for 17 years, retiring in 2013. Robert was well known on the quarter horse show circuit in New Jersey, showing a top winning performance horse, and was a popular horse show judge. He also bred and showed award-winning German shepherd dogs and was an AKC (American Kennel Club) licensed judge. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sisters, Peggy Rider of Woodbridge and Betty Schlatter of Toms River.

Funeral Mass Offered For Angelo Castucci

Angelo P. Castucci, a Livingston resident for 40 years, died on August 8. He was 77 years old. He was born in Newark and was an educator in the Newark public school system, finishing his career as a vice-principal at Holy Trinity School in Westfield. He was a member of the men’s choir at St. Lucy’s Church in Newark and a parishioner of St. Philomena’s Church in Livingston, belonging to its men’s group. Mr. Castucci was the husband of Gloria (née Mozino); the father of Frank Castucci and his wife, Kimberly; and the grandfather of two. He was predeceased by his sisters, Rose Sierchio, Dottie Westrich and Marian Donofrio; and is survived by his sister, Vera Baldassare. Donations in his memory may be made to the New Jersey chapter of Autism Speaks, 1060 State Road. second floor, Princeton, NJ 08540; autismspeaks.org. The funeral was held at the Galante Funeral Home in Caldwell and a Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Philomena’s Church.

Gladys D. Fiveland Succumbs to Dementia

Gladys Dawson Fiveland of Lamoine, Maine, formerly of Livingston, died February 1, after a five-year battle with dementia. Mrs. Fiveland was born to John and Emma Dawson in New York state on April 1, 1924. Her father built a house in Livingston, and she attended Livingston schools until the eighth grade. She was graduated from high school in West Orange in 1942 and worked as a secretary for the Beneficial Management Group in Newark. In 1946, she married Arthur Fiveland, and became the mother of twin sons, David Nicholi and Andrew Karl, later having a daughter, Eleanor Jean.

Crystal Hatzimanolis

Crystal Hatzimanolis, 79, of Livingston, N.J., passed away on August 11, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Visitation was on Wednesday, August 15, at Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Avenue, Roseland, and on Thursday, August 16, at Saints Nicholas, Constantine, and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 80 Laurel Avenue, Roseland, N.J. A funeral service was then offered, and interment was at Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover, N.J. Memories and condolences may be shared at farmerfunerlhome.com. Born in Kalavasos, Larnaca, Cyprus to the late Michael and Olympiada Ioannides, she came to the United States at the age of 13, residing in East Orange, N.J., and eventually settling in Livingston. She attended Rutgers Douglas College, New Brunswick. Crystal was known for her strong work ethic, holding various titles throughout her career. As an active member of Saints.
