Services Were Held For Carol Ettore-Asimou

Carol Ann Ettore-Asimou, 63, formerly of Livingston, died on March 19.

Born in Newark to Eugene and Concetta Ettore, Mrs. Ettore-Asimou lived most of her life in Livingston and settled in Andover in 2016. For many years, she was an event planner for LAPP Corp. in Florham Park.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years, John Asimou; her sons, Eugene A. Asimou (Taryn Alysha), and Christopher J. Asimou, and a granddaughter.

Services were held on Sunday, March 21, at the Shook-Farmer Funeral Home in Roseland. Cremation services were private.

The family suggests that donations may be made in the memory of Mrs. Ettore-Asimou to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Marilyn R. Welsch

On Thursday, March 11, 2021, Marilyn Rose Welsch, grandmother, wife, and mother, died peacefully at her home in Livingston, New Jersey, from cardiopulmonary arrest. She was 80 years old.

Born on July 3,1940, in New York City to Gertrude and Harry Rudman, Marilyn grew up in Allentown, Pennsylvania with her older sister, Ellin. Summers were spent traveling and attending Camp Kenwood in Connecticut. An ever-aspiring writer, Marilyn graduated from Allentown High School in 1958 and attended Boston University. She returned to Camp Kenwood and worked as a counselor during the summers. She graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree from BU’s School of Public Relations in 1962.

Francis J. Murphy

Francis Joseph “Bud” Murphy of Livingston, New Jersey, passed away on March 12, 2021, at Saint Barnabas Medical Center.

Mr. Murphy, also known as “Frank,” was born in Orange on October 4, 1935. He attended Our Lady of Mt. Carmel School and Orange High School, and honorably served his country as a medic in the United States Army. He resided in Livingston for 58 years.

Mr. Murphy was a talented mechanic. As a young man, he owned and operated Murphy’s Service in West Orange, and then in Montclair. Later, he worked as a Construction Supervisor for Hutton Construction. He was a member of the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh in West Orange.

Bud’s greatest successes, however, were as a husband, father, and in the number of friends he made through his unceasing kindness, generosity and good humor. Those who were lucky enough to sit near him for any length of time discovered his wit and gift for story-telling.

Eugene J. Howland

Eugene J. Howland, 91, of Livingston, passed away at home on March 13, 2021.

Visitation took place yesterday, Wednesday, in the Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Avenue, Roseland, NJ 07068, shookfarmer.com.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered today, Thursday, at 10 a.m. at St. Philomena’s Church in Livingston, with entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Eugene grew up in Verona and settled in Livingston in 1961. He graduated from St. Benedict’s Prep School in Newark. During the Korean War, he honorably served in the Air Force, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his time in the Air Force, he was a member of the American Legion and VFW Livingston Posts.

Norman O. Adis

Norman O. Adis, 91, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2021, at his home with his loving family by his side.

Born in Maplewood, Norman resided in Livingston for 49 years. He owned his own plumbing and home improvement company and was a long-standing member of the Master Plumbers’ Association.

A devoted husband and loving father, Norman was an enthusiastic outdoorsman and enjoyed many hobbies, including skiing, camping, gardening, boating, fishing, building elaborate model train sets, and refurbishing his favorite vintage cars, a Ford Thunderbird and International Scout.

Private Services Held For Michael Bart Rubin

Former Livingston resident Michael Bart Rubin died at Woodland Behavioral and Nursing Center in Andover, on Saturday, March 6.

Born in Newark and raised in Livingston, Mr. Rubin was predeceased by his parents, William and Beatrice. He is survived by his sister, Susan and her husband, Ken Samson; his niece, Jodi Samson, and his nephew, Jeremy Samson and his wife, Amy.

Funeral Mass Offered For Franco Compagnone

Franco Compagnone died in his Livingston home on Feburary 21. He was 96 years old.

A former resident of Essex Fells and Naples, Florida, he was born in Rome, Italy, on January 21, 1925. He received his medical degree from the University of Rome School of Medicine. He was last employed at Saint Barnabas Medical Center for more than 30 years.

He was a member of Rock Spring Club, Longboat Key Club and Kensington Golf Club.

Mr. Compagnone is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anita; two daughters, Marisa Boniface of Edgartown, Massachusetts, and Dr. Linda Compagnone of Flemington; five grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Bernard Compagnone.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, February 27, at Our Lady ofthe Blessed Sacrament Church in Roseland. Aprivate burial was held at Gate ofHeaven Cemetery in East Hanover. Funeral services were entrusted to Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, Roseland.

Thomas Joseph Gaven, Jr.

Thomas “Tommy/Tom” Joseph Gaven, Jr. arrived at the pristine beaches of heaven on February 24, 2021, surrounded by his family and the peaceful sound of ocean waves. He was a devoted husband and soulmate for over 40 years to Maria Helena Knapik ofLivingston, New Jersey, and together they raised their children, Julie Marie (Ash), Marissa Eve, and Gregory Thomas in northern Virginia.

Born on June 11, 1958 inNewark, New Jersey, he was the eldest son of Thomas Joseph Gaven, Sr. and Doris Ann Delsandro. He was the best big brother to Edward (Janet), Robert (a.k.a. Big B), and Anne Marie Hughes (Joseph). His extended family of over 150 aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins will fondly remember his ever-present smile & kind, loving disposition.

Mass Offered Monday For Giovanni Raimato

Giovanni Raimato of Livingston died Tuesday, February 16. He was 81 years old.

He was born in Calabritto, Avellino, Italy. He settled in Newark in 1966 and moved to Livingston in 1982.

Mr. Raimato worked in building maintenance for the Livingston Board of Education for ten years before retiring in 2010. Formerly, he worked in maintenance for Kushner & Schectman and Jersey Mortgage; in purchasing for Columbus Hospital; and as a welder for D’Altrui Industries.

He was a member of the Maria SS Della Neve Society at St. Lucy’s Church, Newark.

Mr. Raimato was the husband of Angela (Marcantuono) Raimato; the father of Mary Lou DePaola and her husband, Nunzio, and Antonio Raimato and his wife, April; the brother of Concetta Buonsanto; and the brother-in-law ofPasquale and Dina Marcantuono. He is also survived by four grandchildren.

Offer Mass Thursday For Leonard Del Vento

Leonard “Lenny” Del Vento, formerly of Livingston, died on Wednesday, February 10, a week after his wife of 45 years, Maria, died.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Lucy’s Church in Newark today, Thursday, February 18, at 9:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union. Guests are reminded to observe COVID-19 precautions. Arrangements are by the Galante Funeral Home in Union.

Mr. Del Vento grew up in Orange and lived in Livingston and East Hanover. He was a lifelong member ofthe International Longshoremen’s Association for 43 years, where he worked as the head foreman stevedore at Maher Terminal.

Mr. Del Vento is survived by his daughter; Erika Ann Del Vento; his brother, Aldo Del Vento, and his sisters, Renita and Carla Del Vento.
