Girls’ Track and Field Defeats Columbia

The Livingston High School girls’ track and field team hosted the Cougars of Columbia onWednesday,April 18, and scored an 80-56 victory over the rival team.

The Lancer distance squad provided big points for the team by sweeping both the 800 and 1,600 meter events. In the latter, co-captain Sammy Keenan led the pack over the finish line in first place in 5:50.1. Katrina Leigh provided the second place finish with a time of 6:02.3.

In the challenging 800 meter run, which blends the endurance of a distance runner with the speed skills of a sprinter, junior Lindsay Anan led the Lancers over the finish line in first place with her time of 2:35.2. Freshman Kylie Prendergast was next at 2:35.6, and Keenan rounded out the top three places with her time of 2:39.1. Also running for the Lancers was Ashley Pearl, who finished at 3:07.

Lady Lancers Defeat Montclair

The Livingston High School varsity softball team traveled to Montclair on Friday, April 12, and defeated the Mounties, 11-1. The win came on the heels of a 6-0 loss to the Lions of Mount Saint Dominic on Wednesday, April 10, on the oval. Named to Fordham U. Athletic Hall of Fame

David Rosa, II, a 1997 graduate of Livingston High School and 2002 graduate of Fordham University, will be inducted into Fordham University’s Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, April 27, at a gala to be held at 583 Park in New York City. Rosa joins the likes of Frankie Frisch, Vince Lombardi, Wellington Mara and Vin Scully in the University’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

After a stand-out career at Livingston High School, Rosa was recruited and awarded a scholarship to the Division I university. Over the course of his career at Fordham, he established himself as one of the top track and field athletes in the school’s history, winning three conference championships. Highlights of his collegiate career include two-time First Team and two-time Second Team All Atlantic 10 selections. He also earned All-East honors as a junior and senior, placing fifth in the 400 meter hurdles at the prestigious IC4A/ ECAC championships.

Boys’ Track Team Opens Season; Takes First at Dodgertown Relays

The Livingston High School boys’ track and field team opened its season on Thursday, April 11, with a meet at home against East Orange and Montclair. The Lancers then went on to score a big win at the Dodgertown Relays in Madison on Saturday, April 13.

Home Meet

In their first meet of the season, the Lancers faced two Super Essex Conference (SEC) American division foes, Montclair and East Orange.

Although the first event, the 400 intermediate hurdles, had only two Lancers contesting, Victor Lopez-Simpson (60.6) got out fast and won against both opponents.

Lancer Tennis Team Opens Season

The Livingston High School boys' tennis team won three of five matches and has a four and two win-loss record, including two and two in the Super Essex Conference.

Montclair 3, Livingston 2: In the Super Essex Conference match, Montclair prevailed in second and third singles and first doubles while the Lancers won first singles and second doubles.

Sam Levshteyn scored a 0-6, 6-1, 6-3 first singles victory on a very windy day, while Robbie Coleman and Max Esralew lost straight set second and third singles matches.

At first doubles, Jack Friedman and Josh Meyers were defeated by Montclair in three sets while Ben Frankstein and Andrew Rhodes split sets at second doubles before prevailing in the third set 10 point match tiebreak 5-7, 6-4, 10-8.

Lancer Golf Team Off to a Strong Start

The Livingston High School golf team started its season with big victories over Verona, Nutley, and West Orange. Zach Freidman led the way with a 39 in the Verona match followed by captain Alex Harte’s 42. In the following match, Jason Selvin shot a 39 while Jake Goldstein and Srishti Dhurandhar each had a 41 to lead the victory.

On April 4, the Lancers defeated a strong Newark Academy team by one stroke thanks to Dhurandhar and Harte who finished with a 39 and 41 respectively. On April 8, the team defeated Montclair by the score of 163 to 178.

Lancer Softball Team Opens Spring Season

The Livingston Lancer softball team just finished its pre-season, wrapping up eight scrimmages, and won its first game of the season, announced head coach Jason Daily.

The Lancers opened up with a 12-1, five inning victory in an SEC conference game against visiting West Orange. Sophomore Jess Bullion was stellar in the circle on opening day, allowing only one hit while striking out all 15 batters she faced. Briana Melucci homered and Chloe Saperstein and Kelly Lyons had two hits apiece. Julie Moresco, Deja Robinson, Nathalia DiIanni and Sarah Smith each had one hit.

Sabres Hockey Team Wins SUSHL Stanley Cup

The Sabres defeated the Panthers, 9-5, to win the Stanley Cup Championship in the Sports University Street Hockey League (SUSHL) Junior Division.

The second and third grade team, coached by Scott Saperstein and Steve Shapiro, includes Livingston residents Jake Bonardi, Spencer Cowen, Griffin Loventhal, Cole Shapiro, Max Pfeffer, Asher Cox and Danny Wheeler.

The Sabres went undefeated during the regular season and play-offs. In the final, the Panthers took an early 3-1 lead, with great play from Aiden Krasnow and Isaac Scherzer, but the Sabres fought back to take the lead and eventually pull away.

The Lancers had a home game on Wednesday (results were not available at press time) and will play at home again this Friday, March 29, at 4 p.m. on the LHS turf.
