Memorial Gathering Held For Richard A. Gabel, 89

Richard A. Gabel of Livingston died Sunday, February 11, at the age of 89. A memorial gathering was held Saturday, February 17, at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston. Mr. Gabel grew up in Newark and lived in West Orange before settling in Livingston in 1966. He worked as a mechanical engineer for Atlantic Design Company in Newark for 40 years, and later opened his own business, PARR Design in Livingston. He was an active volunteer with the Boy Scouts and Indian Guides, and coached Little League. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Gabel was predeceased by his wife, Alice; his son, Richard A. Gabel Jr.; and his son-in-law, David Veriepe. He is survived by his children, Patricia Veriepe, and Robert Gabel and his wife, June; his sister, Dorothy Teebo; and six grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. The family has suggested that donations in Mr. Gabel’s name may be made to the West Essex YMCA.

Funeral Mass Offered For Dr. Thomas Liddy

Thomas J. Liddy, M.D., 85, died Tuesday, February 13, at his home in Livingston following a long illness. He was 85 years old. Viewings were held on Saturday at the Lawton-Turso Funeral Home in Hoboken and on Sunday at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home in Livingston. A funeral Mass was offered Tuesday, February 20, at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Livingston, with entombment immediately following at the Gate of Heaven Chapel Mausoleum, East Hanover. Born in Morristown, Dr. Liddy was raised in Summit. He earned his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and served his residency and fellowship in pathology at National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. In 1965, he moved to Livingston with his family, where he resided for 53 years. Dr. Liddy accepted a position as pathologist and was the first director of the hyperbaric unit at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. He later became director of pathology and laboratories at St.

Services Were Held For Dolores Shaw

Dolores M. Shaw, 90, a former resident of Livingston, died on February 10. A celebration of her life was held at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home on February 16. Mrs. Shaw was born in Newark and worked for Lord and Taylor in Millburn, earning its award for excellence in service in 1972. She was the wife of the late Marsden J. Shaw; the mother of Kathy (Hugh) Nielsen, Robert (Grace) Shaw, and Nancy (Jeff) Stier; the grandmother of five; the sister of Marlene (Harry) McFadden; and the sister-in-law of Yoland and Judy Hummel.

Mass at St. Raphael For Mary C. Centuori

Mary C. Centuori (nee Crisafi) of Warren, formerly of Livingston, died at her home on Friday, February 16. She was 91 years old. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Raphael Church in Livingston on Wednesday, February 21, followed by burial at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover. Arrangements were by the Paul Ippolito Berkeley Memorial; to send condolences, visit ippolitofuneralhomes.com. Mrs. Centuori was born in East Orange. She had resided in Livingston for over 50 years, before moving to Warren one year ago. A graduate of Kean University, she taught in both the West Orange and Newark school districts. After a career in teaching, she worked as a real estate agent for Carano Realtors in West Orange for many years before retirement. In addition, she was a long-time trustee of the Livingston Symphony Orchestra. Mrs. Centuori was predeceased by her husband, Dante A., in 1989; and by her brothers, Vincent and Joseph Crisafi.

Funeral Service Held For Murry Greene, 90

Murry Greene of Livingston, formerly of Union, died Friday, February 16, at the age of 90. A funeral service was held at the Bernheim-Apter- Kreitzman Suburban Funeral Chapel of Livingston on Sunday, February 18, followed by interment at Beth David Cemetery, Kenilworth. Mr. Greene was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 5, 1927. In his senior year of high school, he moved to New Jersey to work in the family milk business, Tuscan Dairy. After graduating from high school, he attended Rutgers University for one year before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. He served as a pharmacist’s mate during World War II. After his discharge from the Navy, he returned to Rutgers and was graduated in June of 1951. Mr. Greene then worked for Wyeth Lab in Madison, retiring after 50 years of service. He was a past Grand Chancellor of the Knights of Pythias and former post Commander of the Jewish War Veterans. Predeceased by his wife of more than 50 years, Harriet, and by his son, Robert Ted Greene, Mr.

Deacon Joseph R. Francione

Deacon Joseph R. Francione, 76, of Livingston, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 in Livingston, NJ. Born in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Vincent and Adelina Francione, Joseph resided in Livingston for the past 45 years. Joseph was a proud and loyal parishioner and deacon at St. Philomena’s Church, Livingston for 30 years. He worked for 25 years in interior design for Kleinfeld’s in Brooklyn, NY, and for Abraham and Strauss. He later worked as a salesman and buyer for Levitz Furniture. Joseph was predeceased by his dear son, David. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Elaine (nee Passanante). He is also survived by his son, Kevin, and his wife, Cheryl; his daughter-in-law, Susan; his adoring grandchildren, Jesse, Kayla, Joseph, and Nicholas; his sister, Johanna LaMonica; his brother-in-law, Dennis Passanante, and his wife, Jennifer; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Accidents Close E. Northfield Road Tuesday

Two trucks pulled down several wires and utilities poles, closing East Northfield Road for most of Tuesday. In other police-related action this week, a Bronx woman was caught trying to fraudulently cash a $4,800 check at a township bank.

At about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, a garbage truck was exiting the Shell gas station on East Northfield Road, when it struck low hanging wires, pulling down more wires across the roadway, police said.

Hockey Team Advances to Conference Finals

Livingston High School’s varsity ice hockey team has advanced to the Conference finals for the fourth time in six years. A great team effort gave the Lancers a 1-0 shut-out win Monday night over Montclair, which is ranked #1 in public A schools. Junior forward Max Solomon scored the game-winning goal with five minutes left in the second period and senior goalie Matt Delseni secured the win with 22 saves.

The game marked Delseni’s eighth shut-out of the year. The senior goaltender was named first team, allconference for the 2017-18 season, and, said coach Dave Conklin, “is considered one of the top goaltenders in New Jersey.” He has allowed just 28 goals on 545 shots.

Valedictorian/Salutatorians Named

VALEDICTORIAN/SALUTATORIANS NAMED: Livingston High School principal Mark Stern announced its top senior scholars on Wednesday morning, February 14. Catherine Yu has been named the valedictorian, while Serena Zhao and Amy Liu have been named co-salutatorians. Livingston High School’s class of 2018 includes approximately 500 students. Commencement ceremonies will be held on Thursday, June 21.
